Tools and Hardware Reviews of Grizzly G0555 The Ultimate 14" BandsawCustomer Review: Excellent saw , excellent price Summary: 5 Stars
This saw came with very clear and accurate setup instructions and the blade tracked perfectly right from the start. The roller guides for the blade are easy to adjust and keep the blade cool and steady. I very much enjoy the clean smooth table, useful miter gauge, and splendid fence with magnified viewer for the scale. The stock blade is a good general choice, which cuts quickly and smoothly (I resawed a scrap of 2x4 and got a clean 1/16th cutoff), and the assembly tolerated a <2" curve without complaint with the same 1/2" blade. The motor is very quiet and seems to have loads of power for handling whatever you send across the blade. I am also pleased with the 6" riser block kit, it came with everything needed including extended safety guards, and is sturdy enough to maintain the strength and rigidity of this saw. The saw is also nice and sturdy, with a well designed base. The whole assembly is pleasantly heavy so it withstands heavy stock and effort without shifting.I heartily recommend this to anyone who needs a 14" bandsaw, it seems unlikely that we'll see a better one for less anywhere.
Customer Review: Great Bandsaw! Summary: 5 Stars
I now own several Grizzly products (2 HP Dust collector, 6" jointer, and now the G0555) and I've found them all to be great, low-priced but high quality products. The bandsaw was delivered to my door (it was a Christmas present from my wife) and it took about 2-3 hours to put together and calibrate. It works great, has minimal vibration, and cuts very cleanly. Assembly was easy, the manual is easy to understand and you can download the manual via PDF file from Grizzly's web site if you happen to lose it.Another thing I like about this saw was the 4" dust collection - it's on the bottom wheel well where all the dust collects - I've hooked it up and it collects the dust very well. So far I've resawn some 5" lacewood to 3/16", sawn the top off a tea chest I'm making, and cut some hard maple. The engine is powerful and what I was particularly happy with was that the resawn lacewood was a very straight cut even using the standard 3/8" blade. I am changing this over on the weekend to a better 5/8" blade as I need to cut some birds-eye maple.
Customer Review: I was somewhat skeptical, but....... Great Saw! Summary: 5 Stars
I read virtually all the reviews on Amazon about this saw (and also Jet and Delta) I had no doubt the saw was a good value, but was skeptical due to some reviewers stating that there were problems not being able to get the wheels paralles and coplanar - must be an old problem.
I ordered the saw and the 6" riser. Unbelievable deal at $500 (plus $80 shipping) I was expecting issues with the block alignment pins being wrong on the riser, having to grind them off etc - I'm happy to report everything lines up perfect - Setup was a cakewalk.
This saw does not have a full cabinet stand, but the legset that comes with it is super sturdy. Fit and finish are excellent.
Really nice having ball bearing guides, a fairly nice rip fence, a basic but functional miter guage, quick release blade tensioner - Nice heavy cast iron table with a good grind.
Other than maybe upgrading to urethane tires and buying a decent blade or two - you will be left needing nothing
Great deal on a nice entry level 14" Saw. This is a must buy!
Customer Review: Nice Band Saw Summary: 5 Stars
10/31/10
I ordered the band saw from Grizzly in September and it arrived in perfect condition. AS stated in Grizzly's email to me before shipment, have another person handy to help put the saw together as it is very heavy. The instructions to assemble the parts were easy to follow and was completed in a few hours (I also purchased a mobile stand so the saw could be moved in my workshop)and the "fine tuning" was completed within a short time also. I "fired" it up and it ran quietly and with almost no vibration.
The only drawback is that Grizzly needs to provide an adapter for the 4" dust port because as stated in the instructions, the saw will spew out a lot of saw dust if not connected to a shop vac or other dust collection system. I had searched for days at several different stores (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc) to find an adapter that would fit and hadn't found one. I called Grizzly and purchased one that they said would fit but it didn't so I'm back to square one again and can't use the saw. So consider this when purchasing a band saw.
Customer Review: Finaly replaced my ole' Craftsman 12" Summary: 5 Stars
I'm happy with this rig so far. I needed to upgrade my old one to handle curved rafters for a dozen or so barrel roofed dormers with accompaning trim. Once setup (coplaner OK on this one) and a new blade installed, the job went well.
I've ordered a wheel brush (after market) and may add a work light.
Only problem I've had, so far, is to remember to engage the tension lever before turning on the saw (duh).
Unexpectedly, Grizzly send along a free Timber Wolf 93-1/2" x 1/2" blade, very nice ...... unfortunately, I had subsequently ordered the riser kit and need 105" blades.
One thing to note, you do lose 1" of throat depth (width of cut) when installing the 6" riser kit.
Delivery was very good, I was "in the loop" of comunication and the unit was placed on my drive in good condition.
My intermitent use of a bandsaw did not justify a budget breaking machine (drool).... but I find this unit (and features) to be a "bear" of a tool and feel that it'll surpass my needs for years to come.
