I checked several places around town for a real glass, hand held magnifier. No luck at all. I searched on line and found this one. I was very pleased with the price:quite a bit less than similar items at other sites. I had one very much like this when I was a kid. The lens is big enough,the 5x power is hard to find, the handle and frame are adequate, and it has a nice heft to it. It's not perfect, but it's better than I thought it would be, considering the price. I keep it in the box it came in so as not to scratch the glass lens. I suppose that the acrylic plastic lens magnifiers would suffice, but for my purposes (using the sun's destructive power to fry leaves and bugs)it brings back fond memories. It's also helpful when one is reading the fine print on car and boat model instructions. R.C. Barnes
