Our Fed Govt made into law that Jan 2010 R-22 is out and R-410a is now the new form of freon for air conditoners. I bought this exact same unit 2 years ago and it was for $237, now it's over $400........$400 for a 8,000 BTU A/C..what a joke! It's really a 8,000/4,000 heater (mislablebed on this ad). The heat doesnt work that well, a plug in heater works better. The cold a/c part works good. I wouldnt pay $400 for this. Buy a 10,000 BTU a/c without the heat option and buy a $20 plug in heater if you need heat (those give off 5,000 BTU's).
It just goes to show how out of touch our Govt is. For decades a/c's have been using R-22, then when we're in a great recession, they ban the stuff. No one harldy has any money and they go buy a a/c and it's much much higher. Plus the new R410a requires compressure pressure to be 50% higher which means the unit will be prone to failure, louder and more noisey.
