Tools and Hardware Reviews of Haier HWR10XC6 10,000-BTU Window Air Conditioner with Remote ControlCustomer Review: Very Good A.C at a great price and quite quiet for the size Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased two of these units to put into two of our bedroooms in our apartment in NYC. The building we live in is old so the apartments are big with rather high ceilings. One of the rooms where I installed a unit measures 13ft by 15ft. With a ceiling height of 9ft. The units are heavy but seem to be made of good quality. Installing in the window was a breeze. Take note, that these units are heavier on the right side. It seems like the manufacturer put most of the main components on the side, rather than balancing it out. Not a problem. Since we had to install a window bracket before putting in the air conditioner. ( New Law )
Once installed in the window I decided to play with it of course. Once powered on, these units did what I paid for them to do. I left the other window in the room open along with door. The outside temperature was 81 degrees at the time with relative humidity of 64 percent. The digital display said that the temperature inside the room was 84 degrees. I set the thermostat for 75 degrees. The test was on.
During the time it took for me to clean up the mess I had made from leaving the packaging all around the place. Putting away the tools and what not. For a duration of about 6 mins. The air conditioner had cooled the room by 6 degrees. That is a big difference. If you think about it. That is 1 degree a min. Consider the fact that I left the door and window open, this is one helluva air conditioner.
Oh and by the way, it was quiet. Not silent, but definitely not unbearable. And I live in the Bronx. So most of you might say, anything would be quiet to you. All I am saying is for the size of the unit and the great work it does. Its worth every penny. I just hope it last more than 3 years.
Customer Review: Great little AC Summary: 4 Stars
Set up for this little unit is pretty simple. The plastic extenders for larger windows seem a bit cheap and in my mind wouldn't insulate well at all. Once installed I was impressed by the cooling potential and the fan speed. The unit blows cold air as well as air conditioners much larger in size.
I use the Haier HWR10X6 in the master bedroom for energy savings. Turning off the central unit of the house and cranking this little guy up at night. By the middle of the night we are usually grabbing for the comforter and that is a wonderful feeling for the middle of summer in southeast Texas! Our room is roughly 400 sq. feet with 15 foot ceilings.
The unit is also small enough to be hidden easily from the neighborhood association spies by planting a couple of bushes in front of it. Will make a nice emergency air conditioner during long power outages with the hurricane season thanks to running off regular 110V circuit.
The noise level is a little more than I expected but if you are used to sleeping in hotels while traveling, then you get the idea on how much noise this unit makes. It will certainly drown out the TV if you are watching in bed.
Overall, I recommend this air conditioner for the price, the ease for set up, the cooling area it handles and overall style.
Customer Review: Built by angry monkeys Summary: 1 Stars
Unlike my other air conditioner, this requires some assembly. You'll have to use your imagination for the assembly part because the manual has little connection with reality and the screws that came with my air conditioner don't fit. As designed, I'd even question if it's safe to put in a window. At a minimum I would expect at least these things from an air conditioner:
1) It doesn't arrive damaged (this is not packaged well. Mine had several scratches and dents right out of the box. It's even difficult to get the air conditioner out of the box as packaged. I cut my finger trying to lift it.)
2) You can intuit how to install it in less than 10 minutes, usually without a manual (this will take you much longer than 10 minutes. Much, much longer. I've installed others that go very quickly).
3) Any documentation is very easy to use if you actually still need it (this documentation is confusing).
4) Help center is easy to reach if you actually have any questions (with this, you'll be lost in a help tree. Press 5 for this. Then press 3 for that.)
I took mine back and got a different model. Maybe you will have better luck.
Customer Review: I bought this unit for my bedroom.. Summary: 4 Stars
I have a larger bedroom, and this unit cooled my bedroom ok.. and my hallway if i leave my door open. It was a bit tricky to put together, my neighbor helped me.. and in a couple hours we'd put it together. Mine came with a remote.
It was heavy and difficult with 2 people to lift it into my window, and there is a gap on the bottom of it where alot of misquitos were getting in. I stuffed some foam padding in the gap and seemed to work to keep them out.. and i noticed once i did that it felt cooler. Chances are most of my cool air was escaping outside.
I did need to place a fan in front of this unit because it was so far away from my bed i couldn't feel the air, i used my tall round oscilating floor fan and just aimed it at the bed. It works. Most of my issues are with the weather here (Texas) and not with the unit itself.. it's just super hot here.
It beats feeling like i'm having a heat stroke, only problem is i don't want to leave my bedroom.. lol. I will need to buy another for the other end of my house.
Customer Review: horrible install manual, no customer support Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this unit and the manual is basically non-understandable with practically microscopic drawings of installation. Further, those instructions are both incorrect and misleading, both. Called Cust. Serv and they never got back to me. Fiddled with unit for a couple of hours and was able to install correctly. I have an engineering background and it still took some thought.
Once you purchase unit and find you cannot install you are either left to try to figure it out yourself or return to store.
Also, unit ac does not turn on unless an exact menu sequence is pressed. I guess this to be a hardwired logical procedure fault in the board. I think most people would discover this correct combo on their own. I think most people would be able to install without return but terribly inconvenient.
Two stars only for quiet and cold.
