Tools and Hardware Reviews of Nickel Plated Candle Snuffer - Without CandlesCustomer Review: Lovely Item, Marvelous Gift Summary: 5 Stars
I recently received three of these, as gifts from my Wish List (thank you, thank you, querida).
Every evening, I light perhaps a dozen candles, throughout my home, for both ambience and aroma (beeswax and vegetable wax are my favorites; I'm a huge proponent of Root candles; and I really try not to pay retail, so I'm not entirely insane). There are times, too, because I live in a deeply wooded mountain area, when power outages are frequent, due to heavy winds and snow. There are thus functional candles at the ready, in every room of my house, for quick access to lighting, when we have no power.
The functional use of a candle snuffer is not simply for the prevention of wax blown onto surfaces--that would only occur with tapers and unshielded pillar candles blown out too harshly, without a hand behind the flame.
For my peace of mind, the candle snuffers are best practice for children: little ones enjoy blowing out candles, but I obviously prefer not to allow eyelashes, hair, or stray bits of clothing to be singed or set to flame. While I have taught little ones how to blow out candles safely, these long-handled snuffers, which do not heat on contact with flame, are a much safer method for little ones to participate in any holiday, ceremonial, religious, or daily usage of candles.
Another point to consider is that there are times when all flames do not completely extinguish, at the end of candle usage, if one simply blows. The snuffer ensures oxygen is removed entirely from the flame; there is no threat the candle will reignite.
These nickel-plated snuffers are attractive; they clean well; the ability to move each into position for tapers, votives, filled jars, and deeply set devotionals is excellent.
As a sweet side note, my youngest, who is six, says the ring of the three together sounds of "fairy bells."
