Customer Review: Caveat emptor: You do get what you pay for....

I bought this tool to avoid the expense of rentals, and it worked great for a few hundred sft of 3/4" oak flooring. Then, air started leaking out of the head piece pretty badly. There is an aluminum "bumper" piece that slides through a metal collar. With all the banging/actuation, especially if you try to whack it at odd angles when you're close to the wall, the edges unavoidably start to scratch each other. The o-ring caught betwen the pieces gets chewed up quickly. Once the process starts, the o-rings don't last long. The good news: it's really easy to replace that first o-ring (3 minute job, tops). The bad news: The o-ring is a very unusual size and NOBODY stocks it. I went through the one replacement ring in the included overhaul kit and have been chasing a 30.3x2.65 mm O-ring all over town and the internet. Customer support for the unit is as close to non-existant as you can imagine. The tools works, that much is true. But, if I had it to do over again, I'd just buy the Bostitch version and a least have an identifiable company I could go to for parts. After the job, it'd sell on E-bay or similar and save someone else the same hassle. For this project, the HardCore nailer got me through the worst of things and I'll have to rent a nailer to finish the last two rooms. I probably still saved money, but the headache wasn't really worth it.
Update: I never did find the exact right size O-ring, but found some that were the right thickness and was able to splice working seals together with super-glue. Interstingly, INCREASING the air pressure helped the seal perform better. I had been getting good nail-setting at 75 PSI, but increasing the pressure to 90PSI made the seals seat better and last longer. While I was working, one other o-ring deeper in the unit also failed, but the included replacement was easy to install too. The nailer did indeed last me through the whole flooring project, if only barely. It definitely saved money compared to renting a nailer, so I'm not too sorry I purchased it. I don't think there's much (honest) sale value for the unit though, so it's basically a disposable nailer. I'll stick by my caveat emptor comment. It might be the perfect unit for you, but be sure to have a backup plan!
