Tools and Hardware Reviews of Glisten Dishwasher Cleaner

Customer Review: It Works Great!
Summary: 5 Stars

I read a sampling of the reviews but was skeptical. My problem: Recently, DC water has been building up significant mineral deposits in my Bosch stainless steel dishwasher. I've had the dishwasher for years without any troubles of this kind but recently, and perhaps it is temporary thing to do with the water supply, mineral deposits had completely coated the interior of the machine and practically completely clogged its filter. And I've gotten white mineral streaks on my stainless steel cookware, and on some glassware.

I tried various solutions. One recommendation I saw called for using Borax, so I tried that. Didn't work. Another recommendation, from a local hardware store (Strosniders) suggested a product purported to work well out in West Virginia, where the water's very hard. A slight effect. From further research I realized that many/most of these products use citric acid, so on searching for citric acid discovered Glisten. Given the outstanding and extraordinary reviews, and the very reasonable price, I figured 'what have I got to lose?'

I don't understand how the Glisten formulation of citric acid could be much different than others' but this stuff, for me, worked miracles. As another reviewer put it, it's like getting a brand new dishwasher. No kidding! I'd ordered two boxes, and wouldn't need the second box except that now I want to put most of my cookware and glassware through a cycle with Glisten, so have ordered several additional boxes.

It's a truly superior product. 100%. Ten out of ten stars!

Purchased through Amazon.

Customer Review: Marvelous product
Summary: 5 Stars

At our current home we have well water. While this has for the most part been great (it tastes much better than our city water)we have high levels of manganese. Though harmless, manganese is like having rusty pipes, and the dishwasher was constantly getting a brown film on everything (including the dishes). My wife and I tried every home remedy and cleaning product to clean up the mess. We ran cycles with vinegar, bleach and spent many wasted hours scrubbing with products like Comet, Simple Green and Kaboom. Nothing worked. While the cleaners made a minimal impact (through hard scrubbing) we were left wondering if anything could do the job. Finally, I ran across Glisten at the supermarket and decided to give it a try. I have to tell you, there has never been a single product that I've used that has made such an impact with one use. My dishwasher literally looked like it was brand new with ONE wash cycle of glisten. I'm sure if you're a chemist, this is a simple product (some sort of citric acid). However, I'm not a chemist and I just know what works for me.
As a footnote, this product works for more than dishwashers. I used this to clean my washing machine and ran a load of stained whites and I have to tell you the results were equaly amazing (I was about to buy all new undershirts). Bottom line if you've tried everything to get the stains out of your dishwasher, washing machine, clothes and dishes; you can't beat Glisten.

Customer Review: Not as advertised
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased Glisten to clean up a dishwasher (7years old) which had a bad odor and seemed to have a mold/mildew issue. I bought 2 boxes because of recommendations of other users. The first box made no difference, the second application made a slight difference. After that I went online where it was suggested that I first run through a cup of bleach, then run a container of Tang and finally a 1/2 cup of vinegar (separate empty cycles). The cup of bleach made the biggest difference and I got in there and scrubbed things with an old toothbrush before the Tang and the Tang really brightened the dishwasher and made it smell better and removed the residual residue. I did the vinegar cycle for good measure although it probably wasn't necessary. To prevent this from occurring again I am using a Rinse Aid product and no longer using a energy saving dry cycle. I am also using Cascade with bleach dishwasher detergent and leaving the door ajar after the cycle is complete if I can't empty right away. I have had several other dishwashers (less expensive) in my lifetime and NEVER had this problem. Save your money and use products you already have in your home to correct a dirty, smelly dishwasher problem.

Customer Review: Gets rid of hard water stains on my dishes, and I dont even need to use entire package!
Summary: 5 Stars

When we moved into our home we started to notice that our dishes appeared to be very dirty with nasty ugly white stains and film and build up all over our dishes. I would run them thru repeat cycles thinking it wasnt cleaning enough. It was horrible and I didnt know why. We cleaned our dishwasher (which was really gross) then tried to wash again, still same issue, I even bought some dishwasher magic stuff and that didnt work either.
We finally realized that it was the hard water that is causing this. I looked around online and found this stuff, at first I was running an entire package thru the machine without dishes and then I decided to fill the prewash container in my washer and it has made my dishes shiny, no residue, no water stains or even water marks. I always order this stuff, I cannot seem to find it locally, and I order several packages at once. I have been using this stuff for about a year and a half now and I cannot seem to live with out it! I ran out last week and I tried the vinegar in the wash and that sort of helps but no where as good as glisten!

Its worth a try if you have hard water and cant seems to get your dishes to look clean

Customer Review: Just what we needed
Summary: 5 Stars

We started having dishes emerge dirty and chalky feeling from our dishwasher (5 year old Bosch).
After having it serviced, the technician could not find anything wrong with it, but suggested we purchase Glisten.
After running Glisten through the dishwasher, I did not see a difference to the stainless interior.
HOWEVER, after I ran the next load of dishes, the inside gleamed and the dishes came out clean without any residue.
It is expensive (the box only provides a single use), but it is cheaper than having our dishwasher serviced or buying a new one.
We were told you could use it every other month - 1x per quarter. Supposedly it helps break down any food caught in the drain.

A couple of things to note to improve your dishwasher's performance as suggested by our technician:
1) Always use a rinse aid (I always thought this was optional)
2) If you are using an eco-friendly detergent, it may not be working properly. He mentioned that the eco-friendly detergents have the tendency to create too many suds.
