I bought it to add a light switch at the top of the basement stairs. The house is a raised ranch, and when the previous owners raised it and moved the stairs, they neglected to have a switch installed. It works, however...
1) Quality of construction is poor. I would have paid double for higher quality.
2) Occasionally it does not work right away.
3) Will not work with fluorescent or compact fluorescent lights. This may render it useless after 2012, when incandescent bulbs are due to be taken off the market. However, I will but a stockpile of bulbs to ensure I don't need to replace the unit at that time.

I purchased this so that my daughter who has a form of dwarfism could turn the light in her bedroom on and off. It was very easy to install and works great. One thing to keep in mind is that is does not work with the flourescent energy efficient light bulbs (it made a humming noise and never turned completely off). Once I switched back to a plain old lightbulb it worked perfectly. I had emailed customer service initially when I noticed the buzzing and they were great at responding quickly to my questions and even following up a day later to be sure everything was resolved! This is an inferior product. I installed it on an old style tube fluorescent long tube ceiling light. Problem one, when you turned the light off it would glow for about 10 seconds before it would go out. Problem two, you have to fiddle with the remote switch to get it to work and on the slow start fluorescent, that was a big problem. I reinstalled it on another light and it works poorly. The remote switch is the problem, sometime it works and other time you must fiddle with it to get it to turn on or off. I have 4 handy switches of the Billy Mays style and they work get. I wouldn't recommend this swithch.Customer Review: Cheap, ugly switch.

The vague product description neglected to specify that the remote switch cannot be installed in a standard switch box. It is a self-contained box that mounts exterior to the wall, sticking out a couple inches, which looks tacky (the remote switch installs in a standard switch box). I also echo what other reviewers said about the switch having a "cheap" feel to it. As you switch it on and off, it has a poorly-constructed feel to it. I can't comment on the functionality of the switch, as I returned it promptly after removing it from the packaging and realizing it was not at all what I expected.Customer Review: Easier and cheaper than an electrician!

This is a great product! I just moved into a new house, and there was on switch that controlled the kitchen lights. It was at the door way across the room and after I placed my table in the room it was almost impossible to get to in the dark. I found this switch and ordered it immediately. I installed it in about 10 minutes. The instructions were easy and the product works great! Just make sure that if you order multiple switch sets that you get different "channels" because you could end up turning things off and on that you don't want to with the same frequency running in the house...lol.
