Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hobart 770096 Welding Oxy-Acetylene Goggle - 50mm Eye CupCustomer Review: Pros and Cons Summary: 3 Stars
Primarily bought these to modify for steampunk wear, and so I can eventually do my welding in style.
Pros: cheap, easily modifiable, simple construction. Disassembly is simple and doesn't require tools.
Cons: generally tight and uncomfortable, although the eyecups are fine. If you wear a size large hat (7 3/8" to 7 1/2"), these will fit too tightly even if you max out the length of the adjustable strap.
However, if you plan on modifying your goggle, you'll probably replace the strap and the chain "nose piece" anyway. Problem solved!
Customer Review: Very nifty Summary: 4 Stars
Work great for cutting the grass in the insane Florida sunlight (*Even though I'm not sure how healthy it is for me to use them as sun-glasses). The lenses are removable, so you can change them out if you have your own glass, or want to use the clear plastic that is with the tented lenses. Personally love the look, and would recommend them to anyone who wants a pair of steam punk goggles, with a little work they could look great. Others have mentioned them digging into their head/nose, but I haven't personally experienced any trouble with them.
Customer Review: Good quality goggles Summary: 5 Stars
I bought these from Amazon to use a part of a costume and was very pleased with them. Both the clear and dark green lenses can be easily swapped out. The dark lenses have writing on them but if turned inwards it is not visible. They are easily adjustable and fit my face well, but being hard plastic can get a little uncomfortable after wearing for a while.
I painted them, replaced the nose piece with a spring, replaced the strap with a leather one, and bolted some metal bits on the vents to give them a steampunk look.
Customer Review: Steampunk!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Great goggles! These are the perfect base for making some Steampunk goggles. Just spray paint them a brass tone and add some bits of metal or gears and there you go. I am relpacing the strap with brown leather and a brass buckle. FYI... the goggles come with dark plastic lens under a clear glass lens, the dark lens can be removed if desired leaving just the clear glass lens. I am going to remove the dark lenses and add light green tinted film to the inside of the clear lenses. I will post some pics when done.
Customer Review: Used these for Burning Man... Summary: 4 Stars
...and loved them. The strap/connector between the eyepieces is a little shoddy in decoration, but comfortable. Kind of annoying to adjust. Also annoying to take out and put back in the clear and uv tinted plates.
Designed to be aesthetically pleasing (for the price), but not designed well for usability/functionality--and by that, I only mean for wearing, taking apart, putting back together, etc.
