Tools and Hardware Reviews of Factory Reconditioned Homelite ZR08580 26cc Gas Powered MightyLite Backpack Blower

Customer Review: Buyer Beware
Summary: 1 Stars

I recieved this blower intact with fast shipping. But it would not start no matter how hard I tried!

Symptoms:
1. Primer bulb did not fill with any gas even though pushed bulb many many times.
2. Spark plug was dry despite priming at least 30 times and pulling starter cord 15 times.

Discovered the "FACTORY" had reversed the fuel line with the fuel overflow so fuel was not being sucked into the carbeurator. An easy fix by just swapping the lines at the carb end. But if you're not technically inclined, you may want to get someone who is to do it.

I gave it one star because this is a major flaw which should not have come from the FACTORY!

After the fuel line fix, the engine always starts very easily. After priming bulb (full choke), 2-3 pulls. Engine will start and run rough after 2nd or 3rd pull. Turn knob directly to run (No choke). Always works!

Performance wise, my Toro electric blower was better in performance. Toro blow leaves and debris better and further. But the Homelite blower is very light and does not need a cord. Blower is restricted if you use the round raking wand or if you use the flat sweeping wand. I just used the blower without the last section.

Also the blower bellows tube is very ridgid. I would have liked it to be more flexible as you sweep left and right.

Overall... a cheap blower with ok performance. Good value for the $ but just beware of potential fuel line mixup.

We received the backpack blower, followed the instructions and it was almost impossible to start. Finally got it started and it idled but every time I tried to accelerate it would die. I did everything according to the instructions and obviously there was a serious problem with the product. Very poor quality control. Contacted Amazon and this item cannot be returned so they credited my account. I went ahead and ordered a Ryobi reconditioned unit... received it and no manual, no instructions. Did get it started, idles great but it has such a bad vibration that after using it 5 minutes my right hand was numb and my lower back was numb. Called Amazon to inform them of the poor quality of these remanufactured units. They were very nice but there was nothing they could do. I now have it at the shop and a driveway full of leaves waiting for the repair. I won't make this mistake again. It's been almost a month since I originally ordered the first backpack blower. Don't mistake, Amazon handled this fine, but the product was not what it was advertised to be in good working order.

I hadn't checked the blower out since I received it til yesterday. I followed the set up instructions and attempted to start it. It ran for about a minute then stopped. I reviewed the instructions noting that I did everything correctly and attempted again to keep it running. After adjusting the choke differently than instructed, I finally got it to run. It idled very nicely til I tried to use it to actually do what it was intended to do, blow leaves, and the unit stalled. It would restart okay, then as soon as you accelerate it would stall. I have been an automobile mechanic for 29 years and I know that the carburator needs to be rebuilt on this unit to get it to operate the way it was advertised.
I would like to return this unit as soon as possible and receive a total refund. This is the first time I have had a problem with Amazon and I know that I will be taken care of.
Please notify me of prepaid shipping instructions as soon as possible.

Customer Review: EXCELLENT VALUE
Summary: 4 Stars

I have wanted a backpack blower for some time and due to cost I opted for the handhelds. That is until I seen the cost of this one. $99 for a backpack blower is exceptional. The fact it is reconditioned makes no difference as it looks and acts as if it was new. I opened it , filled with gas/oil mix and started using. 2 hours later I ran out of things to blow off and much to my surprise I had only used 1/2 a tank of gas. I have used this many times now and love it. Easy to start, runs good and provides mores than enough power. The only complaint I have is I waited so long to get one. The blower is not heavy on the back even after hours of use. It does take a little adjusting to find the comfortable spot on your back as the frame will cause some discomfort if not in the right spot but not enough you want to stop using it just noticeable until you readjust the straps.Bottom line is, buy it , cost is exceptional value and you will be glad you did , I am.

Customer Review: Works Great !
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this blower to replace a new Poulan gas blower that died after two years of use. I didn't have any reservations of buying a remanufactured Homelite product since I own a remanufactured Homelite string trimmer and its worked great for 12 years. The item looked new out of the box with the exception of the trigger throttle mechanism and one section of the blower tube. The throttle had some minor visual wear marks but is fully functional. The engine and backpack assembly all look brand new. I followed the manuals recommendation and purchased a high quality synthetic 2 cycle oil. The blower fired right up and idles smooth. My old blower would vibrate your hand so much it would go numb. This backpack blower is smooth, powerful, and very easy to use, just walk around and the point the nozzle. I could have bought this blower new at my local home center for around $165.00 but chose to save some money and purchase the remanufactured one from Amazon.
