Tools and Hardware Reviews of Duracraft DT-75 Personal 2-Speed FanCustomer Review: Read reviews and maybe shouldn't have bought 3 Summary: 2 Stars
April 12, 2010:
I've been waiting for this fan to be available since it got great reviews about how powerful and quiet it is. I decided to buy it the second it's available (amazon does a bad job of telling you if it's available by the way, you have to check yourself) and I turn it on low to try it out and it makes a squeaking sound as if it wasn't oiled properly. On high, it is less noticeable, but aside from that, I would still NOT say that it is quiet. I bought this to replace my Seville mini tower and they are about equal in decibels. The reviews were right about it being strong, not high velocity fan strong, but strong for a personal fan. However, it is the same, strength wise, as my Seville. All 3 of them have the squeaking sound so I did not just get 'unlucky'. I might just put it a room or two away to blow air in so I won't hear the annoying squeaking.
I think next time I might just spend a little more and get a Vornado.
March 06, 2011:
The squeaks are gone and this little fan is a good personal fan, but again does not stand up to par with velocity fans. I do have that it does not oscillate, but it does have a few good points.
Good:
- small
- good for a personal fan
- quiet on LOW
- cheap
- 120v at 0.6A = 9.97632 watts
Bad:
- does not oscillate
- very loud on high (no idea why the other reviews said otherwise)
- falls over a lot since it's on 3 legs.
Bottom-line: looking for a cheap office fan? get it! If you need one for the summertime because it gets too hot? DO NOT GET THIS ONE, save up some money and get an oscillating high velocity fan, but don't forget to look at the wattage.
Customer Review: It's not as good Summary: 4 Stars
I mean, this thing is cheap and for that it gets a couple stars. It looks pretty good and it is quiet. What sucks is the knob on the front. I have to hold the thing from the back with one hand while i turn the speed dial because it's too light. I kind of turn if i don't have to hold it from the back, but usually it just slides out of position on my desk. So, producers, put the controls on the back as pushdown buttons, or put some rubber grips on the bottom. Also, and this is the only reason I give it 4 out of 5 stars, there is only Low and High speeds. Low is way to fast and is not comfortable on a desk because the aire just dries out your eyes. I have to turn the fan in another direction where I only get a small amount of wind. Luckily there is a wall behind me, otherwise my peers would certainly complain of wind. And this is on the Low speed.
Still, cheap, quiet, nice looking, small, but doesn't rotate, so gets 4/5 stars.
Customer Review: Great! Powerful! Maybe a Little Too Powerful... Summary: 4 Stars
This is a great desk fan. It would make a great room fan, too!
Pros:
=====
- Pretty quiet for the amount of air it can push around.
- Durable
- Great price for what you get
Cons:
=====
- I wish there was an even lower setting. Low is still pretty powerful.
- I wish you could adjust the direction of the airflow easier. I have to prop the fan up on a book or something to point it where I want it pointed.
I'd say this was the second-best desk fan I've ever owned--the best being one from Sharper Image. However, those fans had durability problems--they wouldn't last more than 18 months. This one has lasted for six months and I can't imagine it having problems. It feels so sturdy.
Customer Review: Excellent Fan with Easy-To-Use Front-Mounted Controls Summary: 5 Stars
I own three of these, and I may buy another one just in case they ever stop making it. I especially like the convenience of the front-mounted control switch. I wish more fan manufacturers used front-mounted controls because it's so much easier to use. I can't stand loud fans, and I find this one to be relatively quiet. I keep one on my desk at work, and the guy in the next cubicle says he can't even hear it. It would be better if you could change the angle of the airflow, however. And I would also prefer some neutral colors that blend into the background better such as tan or white. That said, it's still a great little fan for the price.
Customer Review: Quiet, efficient, but limited by stand Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this fan to use at work, which tends to be a bit hotter than I prefer. It replaced a Honeywell fan that was larger (and noisier!) than this one. The Duracraft is much quieter in fact, so that the fan doesn't distract me while working on projects or meeting with people in my office. In most respects I love this fan. It's quiet, well made, and inexpensive. My sole complaint is that the fan doesn't tilt vertically. Since I like to put my fan on the floor, it means I have to prop it up with a book to get it aimed correctly. It would be really nice if the fan had a basic tilting mechanism for that purpose.
