Tools and Hardware Reviews of Duracraft DY-012 Oscillating 3-Speed Tower FanCustomer Review: Like a miniature air conditioner, and quieter than my computer Summary: 5 Stars
When it comes to buying appliances like these, I always head right for the bad reviews first, because I always want the best quality product, or at worst, a product that works as it's supposed to. So I've steered clear of things like portable hardrives, which seem to have a reputation for working as they should as many times as they do destroy your entire computer.
So naturally I was skeptical of this, but the price and size was too much so I bought it.
I'm the sort of person who is on the computer a lot, and my room has recently lost a crucial window for ventilation, leaving only one at the back of the house, where wind rarely blows into it. And since I live in a former jungle, Summer around here lasts from April to November, and Autumn from December to March, with a few days of winter in between.
So my room is always several degrees hotter than the rest of the house, and almost always stuffy.
This fan is more than what I had intended; just a fan to circulate air.
Instead, this product is like a miniature air conditioner. I don't know how it works, but it constantly blows crisp cold air out, and even on the lowest setting it is powerful and cold.
It is oscillating (meaning it turns side to side, like a typical fan) and has three settings. The highest setting is about as noisy as an Xbox 360 at rest, though definitely quieter than a house-wide air conditioner.
The blades inside likely aren't 30 inches themselves, but the whole unit is, so it provides lots of area to cool, and I can keep it right beside me while I'm on the computer, and it will keep my sitting region as cold as the rest of the house, while the rest of the room is its typical warm and stuffy self.
Note, this is obviously not designed for large rooms, so don't be expecting to put this in a living room and have it cool the entire room down. This is more than what I wanted, but just what I needed to keep my small, poorly ventilated room as cold as I want, while taking up as little space as possible.
