Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort Permanent, True HEPA Air PurifierCustomer Review: Doesnt get rid of smoke well Summary: 1 Stars
The primary reason I purchased this model was to handle smoke. I have a small office room in my house where I spend a lot of time. For the winter, I wanted something that would remove most of the smoke. Which I previously had a honeywell, smaller model, which worked great, for about 3 months, I figured I would get a bigger and better model... This thing doesn't remove smoke half as well as the small one I had. I will say it may remove smoke over a long period of time, but I smoke about once an hour.
I have a feeling the reason may be the airflow design, it takes in air from the bottom vents and pushes it out through the top. It would seem to me this thing is constantly cleaning the same air. My smaller model would pull in air from the front and force the air upward, out the back.
Customer Review: excellent for the money! Summary: 5 Stars
just moved into a new apt with roommate who has a cat....this item has been a lifesaver! though my allergies are usually mild, i'm not used to cat dander, so i was sneezing and sniffling a good bit before this came in the mail. once it did, i plugged it in and within an hour i could tell the air was cleaner than it was before. honeywell usually makes really reliable products, and i know this one will be no different. it is VERY quiet on the lowest setting, you can barely hear it; the higher settings provide some nice white noise, if you are looking for something to do that. only thing is, the prefilter needs changed about every 3 months...i'm going to test it out to see if that is really true or if it can go longer...but not having to buy a new HEPA is great!
good luck!
Customer Review: Fine Product at a good price. Summary: 5 Stars
The Honeywell 18155 is a well designed product. The case is well fitted, the unit has a carrying handle on top, a good feature. The three speed fan unit is very quiet compared to other units this size. The noise level for each of the speeds (slow, medium and high) is quite acceptable. I use slow or medium at night and high during daytime. There are two filters, the Hepa one that never needs replacement but should be vacuumed when the unit's indicator light comes on, or sooner. There is a carbon pre-filter that should be replaced every three months. An indicator light is provided for that filter also. The unit is rated for cleaning the air in a room as large as 255 square feet. The unit comes with a five year limited warranty.
Customer Review: I'm very pleased! Summary: 4 Stars
After running this unit for just one week I've noticed a great reduction in dust from our fireplace which used to settle on everything. We have it sitting very close to our TV but it runs very quietly - even on high - and doesn't interfere with the volume on the TV.
The only reason I did not give it five stars is because it has a pre-filter I was unaware of which has to be replaced several times a year. At $15 each that could add up quickly. However, I purchased a smaller Honeywell unit for the bedroom which also has a pre-filter and the instructions say that it can be rinsed and air dried so I don't see why I can't do the same with this one.
All things considered, I'm very happy with this unit.
Customer Review: Quiet, almost too quiet Summary: 5 Stars
I never appreciated this product as much as I did until I just went to change the pre-filter. After 6 months of almost constant use it had a thick buildup of dust all around it.
After purchasing this product I did notice the air in my apartment just seemed fresher, it did not seem as stuffy and cooking odors did not linger as long.
When I first purchased this Honeywell I turned it on the low setting and could barely hear it, which worried me because part of the reason I bought it was for white noise at night. On the high setting it is loud enough to provide enough white noise.
In the six months of owning it has been very dependable and easy to use. I highly recommend it.
