Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell CG511A1000 Medium Thermostat Guard with Inner Shelf to Prevent TamperingCustomer Review: Works as it should Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased the thermostat cover for our Honeywell RTH7500D and it fits - just barely. The proportions are off. The thermostat is rectangular and the cover is closer to square - resulting in about 1/8" clearance on either side of the thermostat and probably an inch on the top and bottom of the thermostat. I would have preferred a shape which more closely resembled the thermostat but oh well, it works.
Other reviewers have recommended that you measure, very carefully, the thermostat and the actual opening on the cover to be sure it suits your needs. I recommend that as well.
It does what it's supposed to do - keeps wandering, well-meaning fingers from fiddling with the settings. Our system was constantly being turned off which is silly because it's programmed to turn off when not needed and on when the space will be occupied.
Amazon's price on this cover was about 1/2 to 1/3 what I'd seen in local big box home centers...a savings even if you have to pay for shipping.
Customer Review: Great Thermostat Guard, Great Price Summary: 5 Stars
This thermostat guard is built well, looks nice and, most importantly, protects our thermostats from tampering. It fits all Honeywell thermostats, even the larger touch-screen models. There is a plastic wall inside the case that prevents people from using tools or bent paper clips to circumvent the guard and access buttons that they shouldn't be touching. I plan to add two spring-loaded push rods over the up and down temperature buttons to allow users to temporarily adjust the temperature but that is the only controls I will allow users to access. I was pleased that all seven guards that I purchased use the same key.
Customer Review: Works fine, check your size Summary: 4 Stars
Measure your thermostat! The interior opening is smaller than you think, subtract 2" from the advertised size . I bought 2 for my store, but had to return one for the larger model. My thermostats are a normal size with one cover control door that opened down, the other opened to the side. Both were very tight as it was, but the medium sized cover blocked the side door from opening, so I could not operate the thermostat. I would suggest just buying the large model and save yourself the hassle.
Customer Review: Very good product Summary: 5 Stars
The cover works wonderful. I am a caretaker for an elderly woman in her mid nineties, and one day I woke up to the house temperature at 93 degrees! She doesn't know how to work the digital style thermostat we have, but decided it was too cold (72*) and just started pushing buttons! Needless to say, I went right to the computer and ordered this cover. It works wonderfully and it keeps anyone (my daughter as well) from tampering with the temperature.
Customer Review: Your basic thermostat lock box Summary: 5 Stars
Not a whole lot to say about this product- it does what you expect it to do.
The thermostat is easy to read within and so far the plastic has remained clear. It is sort of double-walled to allow air to pass through, but not objects (like pens, paper clips, etc) so no one can tamper with it.
Overall, it's a good buy.
