Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell Fresh Breeze Tower Fan with Remote ControlCustomer Review: Honeywell Tower Fan with Ionizer and Remote - Great Fan, Loaded with Features but Expensive Summary: 4 Stars
The Honeywell 3-Speed Digital Tower Fan with Ionizer uses up a very small amount of real estate because of it's sleek tower design. The features included with the fan are great. While the price is not easy to swallow, the performance makes it seem justified. Definitely check this out.
Pros:
+ Takes up a small amount of floor space
+ It has surprising air-power, especially on high
+ It has an attractive look with the black body and chrome accents
+ The included ionizer, oscillation and breeze settings give you a lot of options
+ The remote control has a convenient light for night use and all the controls to power and adjust your fan
+ Remote also has a cool resting place on top of the fan
Cons:
- The base isn't as firm as it could be, and the fan will sway if you push it; move it seldom and carefully
- The noise is noticeable when the fan is on high
- Remote has a limited range
- Some functions require multiple clicks with the remote (no big deal)
- I can't help but be nervous when I read about bad tech support or short lived products; mine is still going strong
Last year I bought and had a terrible experience with the Holmes HASF-99 10-Inch Velocity Blizzard Stand Fan, which is no longer sold by Amazon and now only seems to be sold by third party merchants. After every supporting piece on that fan broke away from minimal use, I thought I would move up to a better brand at any cost. That's the only reason I would spend $60 or $70 for a fan.
So far it's been worth it. It is just a fan, but the ionizer is a nice feature even if I'm not totally sold yet that it does much. The remote is very handy, and the looks can't be beat. Best of all, this fan has kept working and creates an awesome air flow.
While the height is not adjustable, the tower design only takes up a small floor area. This fan is light and easy to move around too, unlike the Holmes fan.
These days there are more options in fans available. If you are looking for a circulation fan as opposed to a tower model, there are other options. I haven't tried all of those, but just do your research with a grain of salt for the info that's out there.
Versa-Kool 12 Inch Circulation Fan 12 Volt
Hunter 90021 Century 12-Inch Performance Oscillating Fan
Honeywell HFS641P 16-Inch Remote Control Stand Fan
I was lucky enough to get a small discount for this item on sale, but now that summer is in full swing don't expect to pay much less than these prevailing prices.
If you need a reliable fan though this is well worth it. Even with AC, it's nice to have something to circulate the air.
Enjoy.
Customer Review: Very strong breeze, with a few design annoyances Summary: 4 Stars
With so many fans on the market, especially solid performers like the Lasko that I've been using for the past 8 years, choosing a new fan came down mostly to styling and price. Fans are fans. They all blow air, so the deciding factor was looks. I admit I'm a bit of a design snob, so I chose this one based on the sleek all-black exterior and stylish chrome trim.
The product requires assembly. It comes in 5 pieces, with a bag of maybe 8 or so plastic thumb screws to join the halves of the base-plate and conical pedestal. You then mount the fan column on top of the pedestal. For durability, the screws should've been metal. I can see just one accidental tipping over of this fan snapping the screws. On the bottom of the base-plate is a catch hook for the power cord. It's not well designed. I had to unscrew it, loop the wire through, and screw it back in.
The real strength of this fan: excellent wind generation and small form factor. The motor is very strong and during operation, it's louder than my Lasko, but it's also more powerful. It takes up very little space, an important consideration in my small home. When the unit oscillates, you don't have to worry about it hitting against tight spaces or other furniture, unlike traditional electric fans. When touched (like during button presses), the fan feels top-heavy and rickety as it wobbles slightly on the pedestal. During operation, however, this is not an issue.
Strangely, power and fan speed are the same button. When you turn it on, it defaults to the highest windspeed, instead of low like all other fans I know. I almost never want high, so I have to push the button 3 times to get to low. I sometimes overshoot the speed I want and have to turn the fan off first because the button cycles from High -> Med -> Low -> Off. Power and fan speed should be two separate buttons, not one.
Next, the remote control is a mixed bag. It conveniently snaps securely into a niche on top of the fan for safekeeping. It also has a convenient flash-light feature built-in for finding things in the dark, but bizarrely, the cover is designed to be opened only by wedging a penny into two slots on the bottom. Then you pry open the halves to access the battery compartment. The cover is not openable by hand. This is a really awful design decision and one that I haven't seen on any remote control in probably 10 years.
I cannot comment much on the ionizing and air filter claims. All I ask of this fan is that it blows air, and for that, it is working very well.
As stated in the product manual, the fan comes with a 5 year warranty, an important consideration these days with so many manufacturers cutting corners on quality control.
Customer Review: Year round fresh breeze fan ! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this honeywell fan for about a month and it has worked well for me. It was easy to assemble and it came with thumb screws so no need for a screw driver. It comes with a remote control (comes w/ 2 AAA batteries) that has a oscillate/ionizer, up and down arrow , power fan speed, and breeze button. It has three different power speeds low, medium and high. If you press the breeze button it will fluctuate depending on what speed you have it on. On the high setting it changes between high and medium breeze, on medium setting it changes from medium to low breeze, and on low setting it changes from low to off. You can also just have the fan set to low, med, or high without breeze setting. It comes with a timer that you can set between 1 and 10 hours and and a thermostat that will shut off the fan if it gets to temperature you set. It also comes with an oscillate/ionizer and these work idependantly of each other. I would consider this a year round fan and I love that it has a digital temperature display on the front of the unit. It is a very stylish fan that takes up very little space and I've gotten many compliments on how well it works and the design. I have had this fan going non-stop for a month straight with no problems. This fan also comes with a filter on the back that you can clean (the filter is not a hepa filter). When its warm at night I like to set the timer so the fan shuts off in the morning when its cool. This fan is ideal for a small room or bedroom and it puts out a nice breeze. I can finnally hear the tv/ radio because the motor is not loud at all.
Customer Review: so cool Summary: 4 Stars
I got this fan to try to cool down my apartment without using my air conditioner. I like it so far. Note that I have not used the timer feature.
PROS
1. Air! - good flow, oscillating feature is nice
2. Remote control - it's shaped a little oddly, but nothing says lazy like changing speeds while sitting on the sofa and watching TV.
3. Looks good - I'm not sure if they mentioned this, but the fan comes with an 8" height extender so you can decide whether to keep the air flow lower or raise it.
CONS
1. No default setting - when I turn the thing on, it starts on high in non-oscillating, non-filtering mode. I have to hit a few buttons on the remote to get it to oscillate on medium with the air filtering on. I wish I could set it up so that it starts with those settings right when I turn it on.
2. The remote control works OK - others mentioned that you have to point it directly at the top of the fan for it to work, which I didn't believe, but it's really true. Also, what's weird is that the red light that indicates the receipt of a remote control click blinks even though the fan does not do anything based on that click. It will only reduce the fan speed or start oscillating, etc. if you have the remote pointed directly at the top of the fan.
3. Noise - it's a little louder than I would like, but definetely not unreasonable for a fan.
Overall, a solid purchase. It's done what I wanted it to.
Customer Review: Great air flow...but pricey & a bit noisy Summary: 3 Stars
I just bought this fan and am not sure if I will keep it. I really wanted a tower fan with a remote & breeze feature, which this has. The remote is a little touchy, you have to be very precise when aiming it, hard to do when it is oscillating. Also the price seems a bit high - but it was one of the only ones that had all of the features that I wanted.
The stand could be sturdier. It does move the air very well and cools you off quickly, but it makes more noise than I thought it would. I have to turn up the tv volume a bit more to hear it clearly - yes I could move the fan but there's an issue with available outlets and power strips.
I'm not sure if the noise will bother me when sleeping, it's more white noise. Think of how the wind sounds when it's blowing off the ocean, pleasant at first but has the potential to be annoying (and that's on the low setting). I may try another fan....especially after seeing some other reviews that said they don't last long.
All in all, it does the job very well and the air flow really does feel nicer than the air flow from a round table fan.....a round fan ony cools one area of your body, the tower fan covers a lot more area and cools you faster - which is a plus! I will give it a try over the weekend to give it a real good test and see if I get used to the noise. I will update this review afterwards.
