Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HCM-6009 QuietCare 9-Gallon Output Console Humidifier with Air Washing TechnologyCustomer Review: works well but pretty loud Summary: 4 Stars
We just moved and the current humidifier we had was no way able to humidify our room which is now 5 times bigger than the last room. So i was in search of a humidifier that would be able to work in such a large room and so i chose this honeywell. It is a lot larger than i imagined. I expected one that i could just put on a nightstand like all the previous, but this one was pretty big so i must leave it on the floor at all times (at least it has wheels on it). It has been doing the job well. I no longer wake up with a dry mouth or stuffy nose. But the downside is that when on high, it is loud! When turned on low its pretty quiet, but for my room i usually keep it on high. Its suppose to turn off on its own when the room reaches a certain humidity level, but mines never turn off all through the night (maybe cause i leave the humidity level on high, or our room is too large?) Another thing is ive only purchased warm humidifiers before, and this one is a cool humidifier. Not too great for the winter because it really pushes out cool air and drops the temperature in our room even more (perfect for summer use tho). But overall if you can get past the noise level and the size, i would definitely purchase this. It does its job.
Customer Review: Seems to work well! Summary: 4 Stars
I have chronic vasomotor rhinitis, which basically means I'm stuck with the symptoms of allergies triggered by certain things and cannot be treated. :( In any case, during certain times of the year, when the air is more dry or when there's more pollen I have issues with congestion. And sometimes I'll wake up with a dry through and sinuses full of phlegm. When I get sick, it's also no fun at all in terms of congestion. I ended up buying this unit and it does a decent job humidifying the air. It lasts a good 2-3 nights on the lowest setting so I don't have to refill all the time. Refilling it is a pain and I'm scared one of the handles is going to bust off. But this hasn't happened yet. One thing I'm still confused about is the auto-off functionality. The unit is supposed to turn off after the air has reached a certain humidity level, but it seems inaccurate at best. Maybe I end up sleeping through it but it seems like the unit continuously runs all night. I guess since there's still a lot of water left though, I can assume that it actually did turn off at the right time/humidity level. In either case, it's been doing it's job so I'm happy with it. I just wish it had a built-in thermostat to see the current temp and humidity.
Customer Review: preferred humidifier type Summary: 4 Stars
This is my preferred humidifier type. Every humidifier needs cleaning, so do ultrasonic types, those come without filters and tend to get minerals in the water all over the house. Although this unit needs replacement filters (yes, it is necessary) and its antibacterial Protec ball. it's still worth it. I've owned other types of humidifier, but never happy with them until this one. It also has 2 large tanks, each tank is about 1.6 gallon.
I use a cheaper version (Sunbeam) of the filter now, not sure if it'll last longer than factory filter that came with the unit. Protec is suppose to help a lot with keeping the fungus from growing in the base unit. I took an advise from another reviewer to use the Sunbeam antibacterial solution. (it's $2.00/bottle) It smells like the stuff they use in pool and since the motor never touches the water, It'll probably be fine. (both filter and solution can be bought at your local walmart)
only give 4 star, because the replacement filter part, which cost extra money. On the other hand, no humidifier should be without filters, unless you own a distilled water company or have unlimited supply of 100% pure H20.
Customer Review: Works Terrific Summary: 4 Stars
I have been using this humidifier for about 4 weeks now & it does a great job. I live out in the desert and it is hot & dry resulting in dry sinuses for us & snarfing for our dogs. It has improved both conditions very well. I did buy a humidy indicator so I could keep an accurate reading of the levels in our house and adjust the output as I needed. I have noticed way less desert dust in the house with the "air washing" & I see it on the filter. I am not having to oil all of our rustic mexican wood furniture as often either. With the Pro Tech Cartridges I just rinse out the trough, no hard cleaning yet. With two tanks it is easy to fill and the just set nicely in my sink. If you turn the curved side towards your faucet they stand right up on the carry handles, no big deal. In a normal setting a 24 hour run time may be accurate. In the desert however, at 105+ degrees I fill both tanks 3 times for a 24 run. Once I got the humidity up in our home I now run 24 hrs on the lowest setting with a medium fan and it maintains us at a good humidity level. I find it quiet and much less obnoxious then a fan running. I really like this unit.
Customer Review: The best humidifier our fussy family has used Summary: 4 Stars
We have a highly allergic person in our home who also needs humidity. She really can't tolerate mold or bacteria in the water - and in the past, this has meant an obnoxious amount of care with the humidifier. Some of the most expensive we've seen seem to attract yellow water - and we were told - "unavoidable."
Well, this unit is extraordinarily easy to keep clean - with the little ball that we replace every month or so. We rinse out the bottom once or twice a week and flip the filter over every time we rinse - and...it's been great.
The primary reasons for not rating higher - a little clumsy. The cannisters could fit better than they do. It's a little fussy - but not enough for me to use something else. We've tried a half dozen different humidifers, and this is by far and away..the best.
I hope they do some work on the design because I think with just a smidge of effort, it could be an even better unit. For the price, it is an incredible value. We now have two of these units - and feel like we're in luxury.
