i have read some of the reviews criticizing this product with some bemusement.
First, it is very easy to assemble. I can do it, anyone can.
Second, the humisdistat DOES work - our machine keeps switching on & off.
Third, it is reasonably quiet, though not as quiet as the ultrasonic version i used to own.
Fourth they are realiable, as mine has worked for 2 years now, heavy daily winter usage, & we are buying a second one.
Fifth they are very easy to operate, & change water.
the problem with ultrasonic, which is the quietest & i previously owned, is that dispersion is limited, & they usually leave white mist & / or wet puddles on the floor!
One might think the deluxe version (this one) for just some plastic moulding to raise the height of the humdifier is a bit pricey, & they probably charge more than they should, but its not gimmicky as the height does matter & it becomes easy to wedge into tight spaces. So if u can afford it, pay the extra.
bottom line, my twins sleep better every day with this product, & its invaluable when either has a cold.
Buy without regret & breathe easy!

I had previously used a 1 gallon cool mist humidifer in my room that blew out a white cloud of moisture into the room. It worked but parts of the room felt damp which I didn't like. I took a chance and bought this Honeywell QuietCare 4 gallon Cool Moisure Humdifier and I LOVE IT!! It doesn't spray a plume of moisture into the air, it blows out COLD air. I live in Florida and have a roommate, so when I go to sleep my door is closed for privacy. I have always had to drop the AC temp down to 72 at night in order to sleep comfortably. Not anymore!! I turn my little (actually not so little LOL) humidifier on and leave my house temp at 76 each night and we are good to go. My electric bill went down in one month of using this humidifier at night. I am so happy with this purchase. When my mother came to visit from NY, she liked it as well and now she wants to buy one too. You can feel safe purchasing this. It will lower your room tempurature by a few degrees and keep more money in your pocket.Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS HUMIDIFIER!

After using this for a year--here is what we found: you have to flip the filter about every hour to keep it wet or it dries out except for the tiny part in the water. If you do not buy their products to keep out mold and bacteria, the filter becomes useless in a week. The humidifier is noisey. It blows air horizontally instead of vertically so there is cold air blowing directly on you when walk in the room. Frankly, I am sick and tired of this humidifier producers---we have tried Holmes, Honeywell, and Duracraft. It appears they all ruined their filters so that they will require frequent replacements, or they have issues with their leakage, little output, noise, etc. We are now trying a filter-free Air-O-Swiss. So far we like it but it requires frequent cleaning. At least it works and NOT the constant upkeep buying filters that dry out or become bateria and mildew filled.Customer Review: Honeywell Humidifier - 5 Star Review!!

I spent hours looking for a humidifier for our home with 18+ foot vaulted ceilings and found the Honeywell HCM640BW Humidifier to be the best option.
Ordered it straight from [...], a company I trust more than the fly-by-night shops that offered lower prices. Amazon offered free shipping and I received the humidifier promptly and undamaged.
It was easy to assemble, clean and fill. Despite some comments I've read about the noise that humidifiers make, this machine is incredibly quiet.
I recommend purchasing an extra filter with your machine (to have on hand).
5 stars - very impressed with the product and humidity output.

The only way I could keep my girlfriend from taking the chain saw to this thing was to promise that I'd return it.
This thing has a non-functional humidistat. The fan blows no matter what setting.
It makes a horrific amount of wind noise.
The variable fan speed control has three settings that are all too high.
This was used in a 2ox25 sq ft bedroom and still produces a draft.
Following less than two weeks of use, the squirrel fan began sqeaking.
