Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HCM650 4-Gallon QuietCare Cool Moisture HumidifierCustomer Review: Cheaply Made/ Quirky Performance Summary: 1 Stars
I had high hopes for this humidifier (I own two). I hate the controls - they are slow to respond and the unit starts up irregularly. I tried cleaning the boiler plate after one month's use to no avail. I have since sent one of the units back (direct to the manufacturer as the Amazon returns window had expired) which will cost me over $21 (keep in mind I already paid $39....) - I am hoping for a replacement unit - or even better, a full refund. The humidifier is too quirky, a bit noisy and really just cheaply constructed. I make a lot of purchases on-line and pride myself on my shopping research - WARNING: Keep looking - this isn't what you are hoping for - trust me.
Customer Review: Effective but don't leave water in it when you're not using it! Summary: 4 Stars
This humidifier is great. I've been using an older model for a few years.
I recently had a problem where the fan would run but not suck up the water (ie actually humidify) I discovered the filter was full of mildew. I clean it out during off seasons but apparently when I went out of town for a few days, some mildew started to form that eventually stopped the machine from working. After cleaning it out and replacing the filter, it was back at work!
It is a little loud on high but not annoyingly so. I generally leave it on medium setting most of the time and set it to high whenever I step out of my apt. That seems to work great.
Customer Review: works well when it works Summary: 2 Stars
I had this humidifer for 2 years and the motor went bad w/ the bearings. It started slowly making screechin noises and than went bad finally one day. I was going to buy a different kind but found the upper part for $55 and for that price thought just get it again. Well here I am today ordering another one for the same price and it's been bout 2 years again or so. Same story w/ the motor happen. I would buy a different kind but figure for the price of it to get again, WTH. Filters are $8-10 each and that isn't that bad I don't think. All in all it works really well when it works, and i'm constantly filling it which is good cause that says it is working.
Customer Review: Noisy and not effective Summary: 1 Stars
I am disappointed by this humidifier. I replaced a previous Honeywell humidifier (HWM450 steam) with this "cold" one. It is not only much noisier (think washing machine) but also doesn't increase humidity more than a few percent. Where my previous humidifier was able to increase humidity from 30% to over 50% in less than 30 minutes, this HCM650 takes about 2 hours to raise humidity by 5% - and can't raise the level much further in the following hours. (I used both humidifiers in the same room).
I'm mystified Honeywell would label such a noisy machine "Quietcare".
I cannot recommend this product.
Customer Review: Broke within 6 months; hard to fill & move around Summary: 2 Stars
I am very disappointed with this product. It is less than six months old and has stopped working (and we only used it occasionally, usually when someone in the family had a cold). I will now have to send it back to Honeywell at my own cost and wait 4-6 weeks for a replacement - not brilliant.
It worked fine when it did work, and I liked the different settings which helped to ensure that the room was moist without being overly damp. However, it is also hard to fill and/or move without getting water all over the floor (and yes, I do follow the instructions and empty it before moving etc!). It's also quite bulky.
