Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HFT114B Oscillating Super-Turbo High-Performance 3-Speed FanCustomer Review: Sturdy fan - puts out a lot of air! Summary: 5 Stars
I use this fan in my 9'x9' cubicle at work. I have alternated between oscillating and static modes. The oscillating mode is very smooth and quiet. I have used the fan on level I & II. In this small space, I have no need to go to level III (and barely a need to use level II). It puts out lots of air, and I feel the noise level is "average" for a fan. A fan is going to make some noise if its putting out some air. I would equate it to "white noise" in offices. Its not distracting, and actually can help if you can typically hear office neighbors talking. It makes less noise than a small Holmes fan that I borrowed (until I received this one). I could see this fan even working in a small bedroom. If I needed another fan, I would definitely get another fan like this, or at least look at the honeywell line.
One thing that I don't like, but wouldn't prohibit me from getting another one is the location of the on/off/level knob. It is on the back of the fan, which, to me, is a little difficult to get to. I have to flip the whole fan over and hope I don't mess up the angle I have set up. The oscillating button is located on the front/bottom of the fan - I can even use my foot to turn it off and on. Anyway, not a biggy, but thought I would just mention it - its the only con I could think of.
Customer Review: cheap, quiet, functional Summary: 5 Stars
pros:
-much better than a regular traditional fan. This one does that spiral thing with the wind tunnel effect. Its more effective than a regular fan, sends the breeze further out. Its still spread out enough as well, and you can set it to oscillate anyway.
-its quiet, since its not a big fan. Even on second highest speed its fairly quiet, and the noise it does make is pleasant, not distracting. On lowest setting can barely hear it. On highest setting its slightly loud, but i could sleep with it on anyway. Its just not a big sized fan, so its not going to get too loud.
-Cheap!
-decent looking.
-lightweight and very portable.
Cons:
-controls are on top of unit, so when you go to change the speed, sometimes you push the fan down and change its angle. Wish the controls were on the base instead. No biggie tho.
Keep in mind it IS on the small side. Its probably meant for a single small bedroom. Just over a foot high and wide. Base is narrow though (about 6 inches deep) it it will fit easily on any desk.
Cheap, good looking, looks like it might last for quite a while, solid, quiet, and very functional. Whats not to like? Now I'm ready for summer.
Customer Review: It's going back... Summary: 2 Stars
Just got this fan today. I bought it to help distribute the hot air coming from our fireplace. I plugged it in, and turned it on to the lowest speed. At first it sounded pretty quiet, but then it kept getting faster, and louder, and faster, and louder and LOUDER!!! Now let me tell you what I really think....Its way too loud!! I think the slow speed should have actually been the medium or fast speed. I was hoping for more of a whisper hum on the lowest speed, like most fans. But I think this one is trying to compensate for its small size by increasing the rpm's. Even in the hallway or our 2nd story, I can hear it all the way downstairs, through the living room, and into the dining room. Granted, we have hardwood floors, but that should give you an idea of what to expect.
They really need to make this fan with a speed at least half as fast as its lowest current setting. I'm sending it back tomorrow and it's back to the drawing board. Too bad, I had such high hopes!
Customer Review: Affordable and Portable, Awesome Value Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to take on vacation. It's compact enough to take only a small amount of room in the trunk. There is a handy carry handle at the top rear of the fan so it's easy to grab and carry. Very light weight. I actually bought a couple of smaller and much more expensive compact fans that are supposed to be the "ultimate" but I find this low cost choice moves lots more air. I prefer it to larger tower fans or big oscillating fans. The tilt has a wide angle capacity so at home I'm using it near a floor vent to circulate the AC through a fairly large great room and it's doing a great job. The high setting could not be called "quiet" but it is smooth and not annoying. The two lower settings are much quieter. The lowest setting would not be noticed much and it still moves a comfortable amount of air for a smaller space. The styling is nice, contemporary and does not draw attention in a corner. I think the price is terrific!
Customer Review: NOT "whisper quiet" Summary: 3 Stars
An oscillation tower fan that I had in my bedroom died, so I came to Amazon for the replacement. The Honeywell fan is advertised as "whisper" quiet, and several reveiws of the fan made mention of the fans quiet output. BUT, this fan is too noisy to use while sleeping. Otherwise, this is one powerful little fan. It takes up no space, the output is amazingly powerful, but it is NOT quiet. On the lowest setting, one can easily listen to the television, but the higher speeds, while not uncomfortably loud, are loud enough to require higher volumes than I like to use in my bedroom, in regards to watching TV. I will probably get another tower fan, which was incredibly quiet, but didn't last very long. Still, I can highly recommend this fan. It is efficient, and portable, and attractive (for a fan) and really moves the air around for a pretty good price. As always, I can highly recommend Amazon.com!
