Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HFT114B Oscillating Super-Turbo High-Performance 3-Speed Fan

Customer Review: lacklustre
Summary: 3 Stars

My kitchen was very, very badly designed: the only window that opens is a tiny 12x12" one in a corner over the counter. I bought this fan to pull air through and exhaust it. I couldn't find a box fan small enough to fit on the window ledge, and all round models including this one have the fan raised enough off the base that it doesn't overlap the actual window opening, so I propped this up in front of it. It does seem fairly directional, so being a handspan from the actual window opening doesn't seem like a problem.

When plugged into the nearest outlet, which has a GFI, turning the control often trips the breaker which has to be reset. Turning the control from behind also has a way of unintentionally inclining the fan, as others have noted.

Customer Review: Good fan!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this fan about 4 years ago and today (Aug 2010) the oscillating motor part died. Since the motor (synchronous motor TYJ50-8 E199324 4w 3r/min) was $20 by its self, it didn't make sense to replace it. When I took the fan apart I also noticed the caps that cover the soldered electrical connections were pretty loose.

My fan has been used for travel mostly and its kept properly oscillating after years of trunk abuse and loads of musical bass. One day it just decided to stop oscillating. The fan still works though.

I think its pretty dumb that Target decided to only carry the NON-oscillating variety of this fan. Bummer.

I plan to buy another oscillating one whenever they are back in stock.

Customer Review: Moves air. Did you want something else?
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the facts about today's economy that I find amazing is that I can buy a powerful, effective, little machine like this for under twenty dollars. It doesn't seem quite right.

This fan is among the more solid ones we've owned. It has three speeds, a lot of power, and oscillates without the creaky, squeaky irritation you often get from such machines.

My wife and I sleep in a room with this fan on 'low', which works great to dampen sounds throughout the house, like the cat yowling, the boys prowling, the dogs clicking their nails on the hardwood floors, and the incessant flutter of bat wings.

Actually, we haven't had much of the latter, but we're prepared if it kicks in.

Buy this fan.

Customer Review: Powerful fan
Summary: 4 Stars

Yes, the fan is loud but that's part of the reason I bought it (white noise).

Pro:
Powerful fan
Oscillating feature

Cons:
Controls are on the actual fan and not on the base which causes the fan to move when you turn it on or off. Also, rather surprisingly, when you turn it on it goes to the highest setting first which is kinda unusual. I always use it on the lowest setting and wonder if having to run through the other settings first (turning it on or off) to get to the lowest setting will cause the switch to wearout prematurely...time will tell.

Other than that, I've had the fan for about a month with no real complaints. I would recommend the fan.

Customer Review: Oscillates.... sometimes.
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm actually a fan of Honeywell fans, but this particular fan (Honeywell HFT114B Oscillating Base Turbo Fan), I bought because it was supposed to oscillate. Out of the box it worked fine, but less than a week later, it often gets stuck, which is really irritating when you set it up before going to sleep, only to wake up in a sweat to find that the fan has gotten stuck blowing air against the wall.

As a stationery fan, it works fine, but I didn't buy an oscillating fan because I wanted a stationery fan. Another complaint I have is that the fan doesn't point downwards, so if you happen to have it set up somewhere higher than where you want the air, you're pretty much out of luck.
