Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA FilterCustomer Review: Nice little filter Summary: 5 Stars
It's a little smaller than I thought it would be and the only room it could completely filter would be a VERY tiny room, like a dinky dorm room. The ionizer sometimes makes a small popping sound when it's on, which is tolerable, however when the ionizer is on there is a green light that comes on that is impossible to sleep with if the filter is facing you, so the ionizer is really just a day-time function (unless you put some duct tape over the light). This is a fairly quiet filter, which means that it's not very strong. Those huge round Honeywell filters are very noisy, which I like because it means they are powerful. Those filters are meant for entire rooms. However its portability is very useful, and you can place it on a windowsill (if it's an old fashioned big windowsill, otherwise you'd have to prop it up on something) and it will suck in the outdoor air. This way it freshens up a room much faster than any big filter can. You can also angle it at your bed so that it blows away all the allergens around your sleeping area and gives you a cocoon of fresh air to sleep in. I use this AND a big Honeywell filter in my little studio apartment, and as a result dust and stuffy air is a thing of the past.
For the mild allergy sufferer, or the people who don't have allergies but just want to freshen up the air, this is perfect. If you have severe allergies then this is useful to have along with a bigger filter.
Customer Review: No more sneezes Summary: 4 Stars
I have to say that even with this purifier on low (24 hours a day) I have not sneezed YET in the week I have had it. I have only one and am getting another for the other part our apartment. I currently move the purifier each night into the bedroom. That means that I'm operating it in two separate rooms only 12 hours a day, so it's REALLY working for me. We have two cats, and I recently discovered I was allergic to them. My only complaint is that the filter light has come on after only a week. A week? It will come on for an hour, then off, then back on again a little later. I haven't tried cleaning it yet b/c I'm 1) lazy, and 2) just feel like it's too soon. Still, that's not a big deal. I think for $50 it's a great deal. It's also much smaller and lighter than you would think. I was going to get one of those Ionic Pro knockoffs, but then I felt they looked a little too much like cat scratch toys. I haven't really noticed any difference b/w having the ion feature on or off. The weird thing about that setting is that when it's on there is a permanent green light. Yet, you have the option to turn on a DIFFERENT green "night light." So basically, if you use the ion feature, you're getting a "night light" no matter what. If you're someone who needs darkness while you sleep, the ion green light IS a little bright for not being something you have the choice of turning on or off.
Customer Review: A loud but okay worker. Summary: 4 Stars
While sketching, reading, or just kicking back there are few activities I enjoy doing more in a room dedicated just for the purpose. Smoking is one of them.
I purchased this Honeywell air purifier to help tackle the rather strong and unpleasant smell of my enjoyable, yet unhealthy and publicly scorned, habit.
How it works:
+ Air circulation is pleasant
+ On high the unit will get rid of the scent in about a half-hour.
+ On medium the unit will mostly get rid of the smell within about a half-hour.
+ On low the unit will mostly get rid of the smell of the last cigarette about two hours after I put it out.
+ Operation on medium produces tolerable levels of background noise.
+ Operation on low produces barely audible noise.
- Operation on high is as loud as a hand-held Dust Vac or hair dryer.
- Despite the increase in noise, there is no discernible difference in performance (I am a smoker so it could be the ol' tobacco)
- I don't know what the lightbulb button does other than wasting electricity by turning on a seemingly pointless LED which shines dully beneath the plastic cover.
- Ionizer makes an irritating electric popping sound.
Conclusion: The negatives are minor compared to the benefits and low cost of the unit which is why I rate 4/5
Customer Review: A Very Noisy Purifier Summary: 1 Stars
I just returned this item and amazon took $12 off for restocking fee. So I decided to write a review now to share my experience. The unit is small, which is good because I could put it on a table. One small thing that annoyed me was that the unit actually moved little by little when it was on because it was vibrating. So I had to put it on a more rugged surface to keep it from moving.
The purifier worked perfectly fine for the first several days. It produced a humming sound, and it wasn't loud. I could definitely have it turned on while reading without being distracted. The high setting was quite noisy, but still it was within reasonable range of noise. Bottom line: if it were like that all the time, I would've kept it.
Unfortunately, after several days, the unit became extremely noisy and produced a noise like popping popcorn in a microwave, even when I set it only on low. Then the noise became intolerable and I decided to return the item.
Perhaps it was because I got a defective unit or what, I don't know. But before buying it, I read some reviews on amazon indicating that the unit is indeed very noisy. Some reviews, however, suggested otherwise, that the product is excellent. Given the mixed reviews, probably the risk of getting a very noisy purifier like mine is not extremely small. Hope this is helpful.
Customer Review: I'm very satisfied with this purifier Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this cleaner for my son's room because he has allergies. His room is 11x10. We decided to go with this cleaner and not the Hamilton Beach for two reasons: length of warranty & ionizer. This one has a three-year warranty and HB has a one-year. We've never had issues with HB products before but for a machine that was going to be used 24/7, I wanted the longest warranty possible.
Set up was incredibly easy and we were up and running in minutes. It's only been four days but my son's allergies are dramatically reduced. Nighttime was a nightmare for us with stuffy noses, nose rinse, nose spray, allergy medicine and the like. Since we turned this puppy on, we haven't used one thing. Not one thing!! I'm shocked and amazed.
This unit is NOT super quiet on low. I think for some people it would be too loud. My husband would not be able to take it but I wouldn't have any problems. To me it's louder than "white" noise but my two boys haven't had a problem adjusting to it.
The night light isn't an plus or minus for us but it's there. What I really like is the filter indicator that tells me when to clean the filter. I haven't had to do that yet so I can't comment on it but I LOVE the fact that I don't have to buy filters anymore. Woohoo!!
