Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HHT-011 Compact Air Purifier with Permanent HEPA FilterCustomer Review: Horrifying! Summary: 1 Stars
We ordered 2 of these. We have 2 of the bigger model and had no problems with them. When we opened these up, the first box we opened had a makeshift weapon taped to the inside of the box. It was made from the blade of a box cutter and the "handle" was made from packing tape. We opened the second box and although there was nothing strange inside this box, the purifier simply didn't work. We noticed that both boxes were "Inspected by #24."
We have 3 small children who, like all children, love to play with cardboard boxes. We are horrified by the thought of us not noticing the weapon taped to the box and having one of our sons find it instead. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about it.
We attempted to contact Honeywell but no one answered their 800 number. We sent them email but have yet to hear back from them.
Absolutely horrifying.
------
Well, the update to this is that Honeywell called us back and apologized profusely about our experience. They took down the information and promised to follow up on this.
Customer Review: Loud and Small Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this filter because I have a tiny studio apartment, I'm a smoker (and it's winter - windows closed) and a new cat and I wanted to reduce allergenic dander.
I think my studio is too big for the filter to be effective, but it is also quite small, which is why I wanted a small filter (I literally don't have room for one of those big stand-up ones).
There are Low, Med and High settings. I don't know how big my apartment is, but I suggest you figure that out and figure out the size of rooms that the different settings can filter. Needless to say, I can't tell if this filter works. It certainly doesn't clear the smoke smell after being on for a day. However, obviously it could just be my fault for not approximating the size of my studio.
But I would like to note that the high setting is loud loud loud and annoying. I may forget it's on, but once I turn it off I realize how QUIET and relaxed I automatically feel.
If you want a quiet filter, this is NOT IT, sorry I can't accurately report on it's filtering capability.
Customer Review: Cleans well - quality could be better Summary: 4 Stars
The good:
Generally this is a well designed little air cleaner. I live under several large trees that dump lots of pollen and other particulate into the air. At night I used to be able to see thousands of motes floating on the air.
I purchased three of these little units, one for each section of my tri-level home. The air becomes perfectly clear after only a few hours of operation - no motes visible.
I'm not sure how to analyze the ionization function - I use it, but I'm not sure how to tell what effect it has.
The night light is actually helpful.
The filters are permanent - just vaccuum them out and you are good to go.
The Bad:
I purchased three of these. One of them has a problem with a bearing and has become quite loud. I'll have to replace it as the noise is intollerable. The other two remain very quiet on the middle setting.
The unit has a light that is supposed to come on when it's time to clean the filter - as far as I can tell this doesn't really work.
Customer Review: Good buy this product works for me Summary: 5 Stars
I have purchased three of these units, one for my bedroom, one for the office and one for the cat room (yes my herd of cats have their own room). The filter and pre-filter on the unit can be cleaned and should be cleaned regularly. My allergies after the first night of having a unit in my bedroom were not bothering me first thing in the morning (crusty, gooey eyes, sinus congestion and sneezing). It took three days to clear me up fully but after the first night I was 90% better than without the unit running. The noise level the unit generates is White noise to me even when the unit is on high. I like to be able to turn on the ionizer when needed and to shut it off later. The ionizer does make a noticeable difference when ridding a room of odors. Buy it, you'll like it. I have had no problems as reported by a few here with quality control or fit and finish issues. Just make sure you don't install this unit in a room larger than it was designed to operate in. If you do you may achieve poor results.
Amazon and Honeywell cannot be beat on this one.
Customer Review: Great HEPA filter, easy to use Summary: 4 Stars
Not going into the pros and cons of HEPA and whether the ion-generator is good for you (I don't use it). But this is a great unit for the price - I've bought 4 of them by now and have one in my office, one in a bedroom, and have given two away to people who REALLY, really need HEPA in their house. My one gripe is with finding documentation on the units after the fact (sorry, I'm not a manual-collector, that's what the internet is for. Recently, the HHT-011 in my office needed attention - I cleaned the pre-filter and vacuumed the HEPA filter, but needed to reset the red "clean filter" light. Painful trying to find the manual (FIXYA was useless) - finally found at plumbersurplus.com - the net is: "With the unit powered on, insert the tip of a ball-point pen or a paperclip next to the LED filter light and hold for approximately 5 seconds until the light turns off". Simple enough, but, for something as simple as that, it could have been on a sticker on the unit somewhere... (I apologize if this was already covered in someone else's comment)
