Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HT800 Super Turbo High Performance Fan, Black

Customer Review: Best bang for your buck
Summary: 5 Stars

Reason for buying:
I bought this fan mainly to push cigarette smoke out the window of my computer room as it got stuffy really quick as the computer generates a lot of heat. It was especially bad in the summer. I was browsing around Amazon for a nice table top fan that was strong and sat low on the table so that, when placed next to an ashtray, it would sit an inch or two above the ashtray.

Cost:
I actually paid only $11 for this at a local Home Depot.

Results:
It is absolutely perfect. It sits perfectly above my ashtray and the fan pulls any smoke coming out of the ashtray straight out of the window. The window is only 2 feet away from the fan but on the lowest setting, the smoke is blown strongly and constantly. It also circulates the rest of the room very well.

Noise:
This fan is actually very loud on the highest setting but the amount of air it moves is ridiculous. If you need to circulate a room quickly, the highest setting will drown out your ears but it will also do the job very well. The lowest setting is tolerable and only makes a hum clearly audible from up to 100 ft away. The hum is equivalent to a bigger fan (20inch) on a medium setting. I don't mind the noise much and can tolerate it without complaint but I can see it getting noisy for others.

For the money, this fan is absolutely amazing. Moves a lot of air and is compact.

Overview
Pros:
- Moves alot of air in a compact size
- Cheap! ($11 dollars at Home Depot during the summer)
- Reliable (been running almost daily for a month with no problems)
- Feels sturdy (The speed dial has a very solid click to it that feels durable and well-made and not flimsy like some other fans)

Cons:
- Could be a bit noisy for other people

A lot of people have complained about the noise this little fella makes.

Question: how can you expect it not to make a lot of noise with a name like Super Turbo High Performance Fan? You should probably be more surprised that this thing doesn't blow your eyebrows off when you turn it on.

It comes with three settings: loud, louder, and deafening (which would correspond to the layman's low, medium, and high). Expect to have to rebuild some of your home when using the high setting as it will, in all likelihood, blow the roof off your home.

My wife uses it to create what some of you would term as, "white noise." Being more PC than most, we tend to call it, "The noise that creates an environment conducive to sleeping minus the city's occurring interruptions." I have also, on occasion, used this fan to cool myself off on hot days (but not too long as it is so powerful as to simultaneously cause wind burn and frost bite).

Seriously, I give it a 5 because it's a good fan, it's very economical, and it's more portable than the box varietal. If I cared about the amount of noise it creates, I would lower the score; I don't so I won't. Just keep your thread and string away from it (I spent 30 minutes cutting thread out of the fan after it literally sucked it in through one of it's vent openings - no joke).

Customer Review: A fan is as a fan does
Summary: 5 Stars

I was almost deterred from buying this fan because of the bad reviews it received because of its noise. Thankfully, I paid no heed to them. This fan is hardly louder than any other fan I have ever owned of equivalent power. I've had quieter fans but they were also less powerful. This fan isn't even louder than my central air unit, which does drown out the TV when it comes on. Not sure what people expect but a fan is going to make noise---especially a $10 fan. If this fan can "wake the neighbors" then you might want to check for hidden microphones in your walls.

I live in an apartment with chainsmoking neighbors so basically their smoke is my smoke too. My clothes sometimes smell like I curled up with a pack of Marlboros the night before. (Damn smokers!! Oye, their ought to be a law.) Anyway, on its high setting, this fan does a good job circulating the air in whatever room it's in to aid in preventing the smoke smell from fuming up my place--and hopefully preventing me from breathing in too much of their secondhand smoke.

My only regret is that it isn't an oscillating fan; I am sure they circulate air better. However, I knew I could only expect so much for what I was willing to pay.

It's a fine sturdy fan and well worth $17 (Amazon charges a $7 shipping fee per fan). I purchased two fans for my two most smokiest rooms and they get the job done.

Customer Review: Great fan with lots of air moved per decibel
Summary: 5 Stars

This fan showed up on my personal Gold Box quick picks list today. I have two of these fans, purchased locally at a slightly better price than Amazon. I've been very happy with them, although an HT800 certainly doesn't replace a whole room fan (Honeywell makes a larger version, the Honeywell HF810 Mega Turbo High Velocity Floor Fan, which I haven't tried). The HT800 is great for cooling off you, your computer, or whatever.

Other reviewers have mentioned the fan's noise. If you're going to move air, there's going to be some noise. I have no complaints about the noise level, certainly not on the lowest setting. That said, I wouldn't consider it for use in, say, an office cubicle.

This fan is no louder than the Holmes personal fan it replaced, but the HT800 has perhaps two or three times the air flow. I have a 20-inch box fan that's significantly louder (even on its lowest setting!), and moves only a little more air than the HT800.

Bottom line, if you're particularly sensitive to noise, then this fan may not be for you. If possible, check it out locally where you can see how loud it is before you buy. Actually, at the price, especially if you can combine it in an order of $25 and get free super saver shipping, you aren't going to go too far wrong.

Customer Review: The only fan I've seen with 3 VOLUME LEVELS!
Summary: 3 Stars

So help me, this little inexpensive fan really can blow up a storm. For such a small fan, it really is powerful. Not only does it have the capability to blow upward, it also has a wall hanging key slot for installing it a wall.

Nice attractive finish, nice compact size, even comes in black or off-white. What more could you ask for? EAR PLUGS!!!!!

This fan suffers from one serious shortcoming that ruins an otherwise really nice little fan. It has 3 speeds, but they are all fast and noisy. The difference between low to medium to high is very small. That's the real issue. I can understand being noisy on high, but the other 2 speeds are nearly the same both in airflow and sound level. They simply put too big of a motor on these little fans, and have for years.

I just purchased mine, and it's going back. I've used it for a short time, and immediately realized why I didn't keep the last one... the noise.

I recommend that if noise is not an issue and you would like a small fan with serious output - consider this. Otherwise a typical 20" box fan is quieter (seriously) and the really thin ones with shallow pitch blades don't draw much more power on low speed while providing strong yet quiet air movement.
