This thermostat is more accurate than our old mercury switch but is has its problems.
The thermometer is off by several degrees, no big deal, just place an accurate thermometer next to the thermostat and make the necessary adjustments right? Wrong! The difference between the actual temperature and the readout on the thermostat fluctuate daily. Slightly irritating.
The main problem is that this thing has a mind of its own at night. Sometimes it will decide to raise the temperature to 80 degrees when it was programmed to 72 degrees. NO FUN FOR A SLEEPY PERSON TO DEAL WITH. When this happens the only way to turn off the heat is to remove the thermostat from the wall. AGAIN, NO FUN FOR SLEEPY PEOPLE!!!
As soon as we find something better the old one will be smashed into a million bits and set afire!!

I have wanted to replace the old needle-style thermostat ever since we bought our house a year or so ago. I have been looking for one on Amazon.com for quite some time, I am the kind of the person who always wants to get the most expensive one possible with assumption that the higher the price, the better the quality. But after a lot of research and comparison, I finally picked this most basic and least expensive model for one simple reason, which is it has the same shape as our old one meaning no need to drill new holes, which could be challenging to me. Even so, I still had to watch a youtube video posted by Homedepot(very helpful) several times to become somewhat confident that this was something I could actually do myself. It took me about 20 minutes to take off the old one and put this one on, tried both heating and cooling, worked like a charm.Customer Review: Honeywell RTH221B

This is a great product for those looking to replace their older, vertical style, mercury-filled thermostats.
Installation was a breeze, as was the programming.
An earlier reviewer reported problems with the accuracy of the temperature measurement in their units, but both of mine were dead on, as far the measured accuracy of the room temperature is concerned.
One of the best things about digital thermostats (besides their being programmable) compared to their mechanical (bi-metal coil) brethren, and one that I noticed right away, is how constant they keep the temperature in a room - they do not allow wild fluctuations, down or up, to an uncomfortable level. You simply do not notice their work, and that's a good thing.
Overall, this is probably the best twenty (x2) bucks I have spent for my home.

This is a pretty basic unit, does exactly what you think it would do. It was easy to install, accompanied by well-written instructions. It is programmable for one day, which in my instance is ideal. I have a varied schedule, never off on the weekends; so, this really is preferable over a 5-2 or 5-1-1 to me. This unit allows one to program four time zones over the day. It is nice to wake up to a warm house in the morning and not have to worry about the utility bill when I leave for work. Set at proper temperatures I should see a savings in my utility bill, and eventually this unit will pay for itself!
Only drawback about this unit is its lack of a backlight. Tough to see in the dark!

just moved into a new apartment and started looking out for a new thermostat and on the amazon search i noticed the same model thermostat that is currenlty installed in my apartment and we have notice that it reads anywehre from 6 to 9 degrees that the actual room temperature as of today i have two other mobile temperature thermomethers next to the this same model and the to mobile thermothers say its 60 and the other 61 degrees..... and the apartment installed thermostat (this model on amazon listed reads 72 to 74 degrees --im having a heck of of atime at night its too cold at night most of the time with these misreadings of the installed thermostat
