Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell RTH221B Basic Programmable Thermostat

Customer Review: This thing is soooo easy!!
Summary: 5 Stars

When the box says "one button programing" it was not kidding! i didn't even need to read the instructions to figure out how to program this. Remember it only has one day setting of morning, day, evening and night, but that was all I needed. I could set it 30 minutes before i wake up to start warming the place up, and also before i get home from work, perfect! It only took two wires to hook up (because i don't have central air, the central air took all 7 or 8 I believe). The face comes off with one screw for easy installation and it requires 2 AAA batteries, which started working before i even had it hooked up to the furnace.

I love this thing!

Customer Review: Requires batteries, easy to use, four stars (can't change this now)
Summary: 3 Stars

I haven't opened the package yet, so I don't know how many stars to give. I am surprised to see on the back of the package that it requires 2 AA batteries. Inside the package I found that if they run out, it's no big deal.

I had an electrician install it, and was glad I didn't try to follow the instructions myself as it took a while (not because of the unit but because the wiring in the house wasn't obvious). I don't have AC in the house.

I find the unit easy to use, not confusing, the buttons make sense. I didn't want a lot of features, or weekend settings. A light would be nice--instead I have a nightlight mounted nearby.

Customer Review: Works and real simple
Summary: 5 Stars

Purchased this to replace a very old thermostat that didn't have an off button. Heater kicked on when no one was home and temp got under 55 degrees (CA weather, doesn't happen often). I chose this one over the cheaper model because of the clock feature, not for scheduling purpose, just to be able to see the time. It's nice, however the display doesn't have back lighting (not in description, so I'm not complaining, just worth mentioning) so it's tough to read. If I had known that, I would have gotten the basic model.

This thermostat does the job well, installation took 10 mins and heater was on!

Customer Review: Do not buy this thermostat
Summary: 1 Stars

Bought this at Home Depot, installed, worked great. 2 months later, we can't get the AC to blow. Called heating and cooling tech who told us that we would probably need to replace our blower or control panel. We were looking at major $$$. He comes out and after a couple of hours determines that the thermostat was faulty, installs our old one, and AC works again. He told us to try to recover the $100 service call from Honeywell. Yeah, right. After wasting 25 minutes on the phone, Honeywell tells me they will get back to me. I thought Honeywell was quality, won't make that mistake again.

Customer Review: temperature overrides stay that way until next program
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed a cheap digital thermostat. Bought one (NOT this one) and found that it had a "feature" that caused problems for my business: if we did an override of the temperature setting, it would go back after exactly 2 hours. OK, so I needed a thermostat that did NOT do that.

I checked the manual for this one, and it appeared to not do an automatic reset. And now I've installed it (two, actually) and indeed it stays put! The programs kick in like they are supposed to, and if we do an override IT STAYS OVERRIDDEN until the next program cycle. That's exactly what I needed.
