Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell RTH221B Basic Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: A+ Deal, Bought Two, Quick Install, Easy. Love it. Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased two for our home, installed them in half an hour, and have already seen great uses for them. While away for a day trip, we kept the temp low, programming it to warm up just before we return. Easy instructions, easy use of programming.
Oh...the best part. We ordered these for cheap. Got a deal on shipping, etc. Paid right under $40 for both. I walk by thermostats at the local walplex and similar ones are selling for $35 each. After tax it's $37.80. My deal was a buy one, get one for $1. Thank you Amazon.
Customer Review: Honeywell RTH221B Thermostat Summary: 4 Stars
It works as good as they claim and is simple to program.I got a littie put out at having to get up in morning early to get the furnace going and then hurry back to bed while the house warms up. I've got it set to shut down to 55 at 8pm and fire up to 70 at 6:30 AM. When I get up around 7:30 the house nice and warm. I'm retired is why I get to stay in bed so late. Unit is also a snap to make temporary changes in times and temps. Had it for 2 months now and wish I had gotten it sooner.
Customer Review: Temperature Problems Summary: 2 Stars
The installation went smoothly. My problems began, and continue, due to a defect of some kind which makes the thermostat read 74 degrees when the actual ambient temperature is 69. I bought another and got the exact same unsatisfactory result. It works. I just have to treat thermostat's 75 degrees like it is really 70 degrees, weird. I should probably get a different thermostat, but I'm too embarrassed to waste money buying a different thermostat.
Customer Review: It works but ... Summary: 3 Stars
I called Honeywell to ensure that installation was correct. They confirmed that I did everything correctly. The unit still cycles the furnace frequently and causes the ambient temperature within the house to fluctuate 10 degrees F. It clicks on when 5 degrees below setting and turns off when 5 degrees above setting. I was hoping for a more regulated temperature. I am not using the air conditioning function as the home does not have central air installed.
Customer Review: great product Summary: 5 Stars
only problem is that the 2 wires coming out of my old one were not any of the colors on the instructions, nor were they labeled. A little trial and error with where to hook up the wires and the thing works great. A lot less temperature fluctuation than that old mercury thermostat. It was a pretty inexpensive item and works well- also looks nicer. I need to replace the one in my basement and I'll get another one of these for sure.
