Customer Review: Good but not Great yet

The product came with easy instruction on how to install the unit. It only took me 15 mins to finish the setup. I like the big screen and the 7 days program which my old unit didn't have. The instruction for setting up the program is very easy to use. The only thing I would complain is the backlight; it only last 2 to 5 seconds and it doesn't have a button for backlight. In order to see at night, you have to press any of the button. When you press any of the button, the light will come on but it also changes the setting. You have to press the run schedule again to retain back to normal. That is the only annoying part. I bought this unit for 2 reason, one is the Font size and the second is backlight. I hope the newer product will retain the light longer than 2 seconds, and there will be a button for backlight. Besides the minor glitch, the unit is good. 4 stars.Customer Review: Just what I was looking for

I replaced an old mechanical thermostat with this unit. What a difference! It does a terrific job of controlling the room temperature. There are 2 programmable cycles. I have it warm up the house early in the morning. It then cools things down while we are at work. It warms it back up in time for our return in the evening. Late at night, back down to conserve energy.
Weekends are separately programmable so you stay warm for longer periods of time.
My only criticism is that programming the temperatures is a serial process. In other words, you cannot select any time period to reprogram, you must step through all the cycles. Not a big deal really considering that there is a manual override if you are home unexpectedly and there is a vacation override as well.

I installed the thermostat today and it took me 4 hours. I had 2 additional wires that it didn't cover in the directions. The R wires and the jumper was a bit vague and I had an O & W wire for the same location on the unit. I had to trial and error it for a bit and when I did get it to work initially it came out as heat (not good when it was already 85 in the house here in central Florida). I finally swapped the O for the W and had to wait a few minutes for the unit to come on and make sure it was on for Cold. Finally it was. Having a heat pump makes installation trickier than the regular installs. If someone is having a problem with the heat pump install, keep the jumper in, red wire goes to the 2nd from the right, and use the O not the W wire.Customer Review: Not compatable with heat pumps w/ emergency/back up heat

I guess I should have read the description closer. It says it is compatable with heat pumps systems so I thought I was ok. We get it installed (which wasn't too difficult) and it doesn't seem to be working properly. I start looking through the book and then finally go to the honeywell website to discover that it does not work with heat pump systems that also have emergency heat/back up heat, which I have. Fabulous, my poor husband is now in the process of reinstalling our old thermostat while I process the return. Item description says it is not compatable but I guess I didn't read it very closely since I tend to focus on customer reviews. The price is right and the features are what I needed. Add in easy set up and you have a great product. The price was much lower than what local brick and mortar stores offer.
It took me less than an hour from opening the package to finishing the programming. Don't let the word programming scare you. You literally press the program button and select a day, time and temp. The 5-1-1 works great for us as we work the 5 work days and are home most weekends. The programming is easy enough to change if we are going to be gone for a weekend.
I recommend this to anyone that needs a programmable thermostat with one setting for week days and one for Saturday and Sunday.
