Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell RTH6400D 5-1-1-Day Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: Easy to program and easy to use. Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this to replace an other Honeywell, which was a non programable unit. So far i have to say it does exactly what it claims to do. Makes the house warm in the daytime and cold at night! (joke) It's easy to program and easy to use, the only complaint i have is the quick reference guide, that is supposed to be slipped into a pocket at the back of the device just doesn't fit well. Once i got it in there i couldn't get it out again without ripping it. No biggie, but annoying.
As for savings, here's hoping. I haven't had the unit long enough yet to see if it has made a difference, but i can't see how it wouldn't. I'll update the review once i find out.
Customer Review: It's Great Summary: 5 Stars
I was originally worried about whether my old thermostat had 2 wires or 4 wires. The directions explain how to connect 4 wires, although my old thermostat had only 2 wires. This wasn't a problem. I called the Honeywell help line and they explained how to connect with only 2 wires.
I was also not sure about the voltage of the wires but all thermostat wiring should be low voltage, otherwise it would melt any thermostat. So if you have an old thermostat, this product should most likely be hooked up with no problem.
It's a great product. It's nice to wake up in the morning in a heated room without having to leave the heat on all night.
Customer Review: Solid but loud Summary: 3 Stars
Just a quick note for anyone looking at this unit. Three things:
1) Easy to install - nice directions and free label tape
2) Easy to set up - took 5 mintes to follow the directions
3) Very loud - wake up in the middle of the night loud
Allow me to highlight the last item. This was purchased for our bedroom and the unit was so loud that I switched it with the Hunter unit we had in the livingroom. I would guess that the solinoid will last forever, but it is loud when it switches on and off. The cheap HomeDepot unit this replaced did die, but atleast it was quiet while it lasted.
Customer Review: Awesome Summary: 5 Stars
I have installed five of these thermostats throughout the company. I was very pleased on the ease of installation and programming. Not being familiar with some of the various Air conditioning units we have, some are very old units, I did call tech service and they were very patient and helpful. Although I rarely get to stick to one job from start to finish here, I would say a typical install should not be more than 1 - 1-1/2 hours tops. I do not spend much time in the offices, however they have been in for a few weeks and I have not heard any complaints at all. And I guess as in most places, no news is good news.
Customer Review: Great Thermostat, may take 30 min+ to install Summary: 4 Stars
Make sure to label all of the wires as you remove them (as it instructs) because hooking up a white w2 wire to the w1 terminal is no good... It took a little while to get this set up properly due to my heating/cooling configuration (a bit of trial and error). Depending on what you have you may have to follow some of their alternative wiring diagrams and if you do so you will have to get into the menus on the thermostat and program it properly. After I got all of this sorted out (and remembered to switch the breaker back on) it worked like a charm. Was going to buy another one but the price shot up.... weird.
