Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell RTH6400D 5-1-1-Day Programmable Thermostat

Customer Review: Great Price, Quality Thermostat, 15-minute install
Summary: 5 Stars

Price was much less than Home Depot. Easy to install and large enough to cover all of the holes from my prior thermostat (just had to paint a little around it). Screen is brightly lit when the buttons are pressed and overall unit is attractive. I like this model better than some of the others (even other Honeywells) because all of the buttons are on the outside of the unit. Some of the other units you had to remove the face to get to some of the controls. The only downside is that it makes a loud "click" when it turns on the AC or Heat, but you get used to it. Best thermostat I have ever owned!!

Customer Review: Too noisy
Summary: 4 Stars

This thermostat was easy to install, it was up and running in 10 minutes. Be careful with the extra wire that may be connected to the old unit. This thermostat replaced a similar 10 year old Honeywell unit. The RTH6400D does not have a history memory function, saving the time the unit has been running in memory, for historical reference. One bad thing is that it has a loud click every time it starts and stops the A/C unit. As the thermostat for the secondary A/C in the house and being in the master bedroom, it occasionally wakes one up. Good features for the price, though.

Customer Review: Works great with steam radiators
Summary: 5 Stars

I found this thermostat after unsuccessfully trying another conventional digital programmable thermostat. It is the only one I know of that can be programmed to successfully control a steam radiator system. It has a setting just for that. It also learns the response of your heating system and can have the temperature reach the setpoint at the time of the set program; meaning that if you want the room to be at 68 degrees at 7:00 AM it will be there at 7:00, not start heating at 7:00, a nice touch. The temperature control is excellent, with no large temperature swings.

Customer Review: Mostly good things to say about this product.
Summary: 4 Stars

Like the interface. I like that the screen lights ups and the functions are easy to manage. I like the battery compartment being on the side so the batteries can be replaced without removing the whole unit. Setup was pretty easy. I did have some trouble figuring out which wires went where because my old thermostat didn't have labels on the connections. My main reason for not giving it a 5 star rating is that the relay is loud when it switches the heater/ac on and off. I have a little house and it can be heard everywhere. Overall good product.

Customer Review: Excellent thermostat
Summary: 5 Stars

This thermostat has probably paid for itself since I got it last year. I have my climate control set to adjust the temperature for when I know my wife and I are going to be home or not, and when we'll be sleeping. No more wasted energy, or coming home to a freezing house, etc. This is a fairly basic model. You can adjust the schedule for 5-1-1 days. A more advanced model can adjust for 7 days individually, and costs slightly more. I recommend you change the batteries once a year. When they die, they die with little warning.
