Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell RTH7500D Conventional 7-Day Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: Does it for you Summary: 5 StarsThis is an excellent piece of equipment. Fairly easy to install with clear directions and complete materials. Took awhile to program as you have to program each day separately. But, that's what I wanted. Now it does the on's and off's for me. Very happy.
Customer Review: Works well, a few quirks but worth the money Summary: 4 StarsI purchased two of these to run the 2 separate heating and cooling systems in my home. Both were identical in quality and operation and their temperature measurements matched when sitting side-by-side.
I'll be honest, there are three things I really don't like about this thermostat. The first is that it makes a clicking noise every time the A/C comes on (probably when the heat comes on too). Second, the quality of the screen isn't all that great. When the light's on you can see some discoloration on the left side. Third, it seems flimsy -- qualitative but telling. It just feels like it could break when I put it on/take it off the wall (something I'll only do a few times in it's lifetime, mind you).
That being said, I gave it 4 stars because I felt it was a great value for the price. Removing the old thermostats and installing the new ones took less than 15 minutes each after a 5-minute call to customer service. If you're the least bit mechanically-inclined it should be a breeze. The only challenging task I had was making a jumper to connect two terminals, but again, not that bad.
The programming is pretty straight-forward and clear. The users manual provides good instructions on everything you'll need to know to get it working the way you'd like.
I can't comment yet on efficiency -- I know it's saving me money but I'm not sure how much.
Customer Review: Works great with single stage split system and Gas pack Summary: 5 StarsI have a Heil Gas Pack(AC and Gas heat combo) on the 1st floor and a split Heil Gas furnance in attic with AC on outside. I ordered 2 of the RTH7500s. I followed the instructions...removed my old mercury thermostat and simply attached the wires as illustrated. For this kind of single stage system the install was very very simple. The mounting holes even matched my old thermostat.
Note - I had considered having a professional do this at $200 each, but I'm really glad I got these from amazon...and did the job for 1/4 of what I would have paid. Also, some folks have mentioned difficulties in programming this model. It seems pretty straight forward to me(I did peak at the manual 1st as I read a few post about the programming problems...so that may prevented me from hitting those pitfalls).
I had them both installed within 30 - 45 mins.
Safety note - I discovered that my circuit break panel box is mislabeled..and the cutoff for my furnace was not correctly labeled. Take an extra few minutes and validate that your breaker box is correctly labeled and ensure your heating/ac unit is really off.
Bottom line - This is a great value from Amazon and a good brand name(the brand both technicians I called wanted to use). Also, Home Depot and Lowes had the RTH7500 for twice the price.
Customer Review: LCD Display of poor quality Summary: 1 StarsI installed the new RTH7500D in my house. All functions and programming was fine. Only problem was the LCD display looked washed out with poor contrast. I complained to Honeywell who told me make sure the battery was new, connections were secure, no corrosion on any terminal etc. Of course, everything was fine. Then they said remove thermostat from the wall and see if the display improved - i.e. running on battery alone. Nothing changed! So advised me to return the unit to the seller for a replacement. I returned it to Amazon and got a new one. The same poor quality display! I have another Honeywell model RTH6400D(installed on another floor) and its display is fine! When I put them side by side, it is easy to see that RTH7500D has weaker, faded display!
Customer Review: Nice thermostat, instructions a little quirky Summary: 5 StarsI wanted a programmable model and this one seems to fit the bill. Appears to be very accurate. Easy to install but the instructions are a little quirky especially if your wires don't seem to match up, mine didn't but after a couple of reads to be sure everything was hooked up it's worked without a hitch.
