Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: A decent thermostat Summary: 4 Stars
First let me say that I once tried to install a thermostat, hooked up the wires incorrectly and fried part of my furnace. So even though they are easy to install, you are just hooking up wires, I have a phobia and had the maintenance guy in my building do it for me (for an added $80). Works fine, holds the temp nicely. I haven't tried any of the advanced programming since I don't change the filters in my furnace (the building does it) and I don't use air conditioning until it is hot outside.
Four stars for the following reasons.
1. Backlight issue mentioned by others
2. 15 min time setting. I like to control to the minute.
Good points for me
1. Can set multiple days at once
2. Easy to override until next time temp is set to change or to hold for vacation.
3. Basic settings intuitive
Customer Review: Great Replacement for older Ritetemp thermostat Summary: 4 Stars
My RiteTemp thermostat that was here when I bought my house constantly varied the house temp 1 degree above and below the set temperature. I'm on my second day with the Honeywell 7600D and I barely notice any temperature variance at all. The house is always comfortable now. I wish I had replaced the old thermostat a year ago. The installation was easy. I don't notice the click that some reviews have mentioned. The RiteTemp click was definitely louder. Only negative is that the down button doesn't seem to work for some settings changes. Not sure if this is as designed or if the touchscreen is flaky. Dropped a star only for that issue since I bought the model partially because of the touchscreen. Other than that I definitely recommend this one if you're replacing an older model thermostat and want to minimize temperature variance.
Customer Review: Why didn't we buy these sooner! Summary: 5 Stars
These are FANTASTIC. I didn't need a manual to program these. They are so easy to use. I can program temp settings for both heat and ac for four different times of the day (waking, daytime, returning home, sleeping) as well as program multiple days at a time. The backlight is probably my favorite feature. If I want to change the temp I don't have to flip on a light in the hallway at night. I just touch the screen anywhere and wa-la! I can see it and modify it at will. I'm betting our heating and a/c bills drop drastically over the next year since next summer we won't have to leave the a/c on to keep the house cool (bearable in the summer when we get home) and the gas heat can be set to 50 degrees while we're at work, then turn on and heat the house quickly before we return. Wish we had bought these sooner. Awesome investment.
Customer Review: DON'T BUY if you have a heat pump Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this thermostat to save money. I have a heat pump. After it was installed my heat pump would come on for 3 minutes, shut off, then run again for 3 minutes, repeating the cycle all day. I thought something was wrong with my heat pump and spent over $300 having HVAC contractor come and check the system. I learned from Honeywell that this thermostat has a .5 temperature variance. That means when your room temperature drops by .5 degrees the termostat will call on the heat source. This is inefficient with a heat pump and ended up costing me a lot of money. I wrote to honeywell and they confirmed that the termostat would call on the heat every 2-3 minutes due to the low temperature variance. This termostat ended up costing me alot of money instead of saving me money. I do not recommend it for a heat pump system
Customer Review: Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat Summary: 5 Stars
This product arrived in a timely manner, was easy to install and program, and works perfectly as a replacement for my old manual thermostat. Installation instructions were easy to follow, but did not explain what to do in the event of an extra wire. The old manual thermostat used five wires, but the new programmable one required only four. Honeywell did provide an 800 number to call for installation assistance if required, which I did. Even though I called on a Sunday, one day after Christmas, my call was accepted quickly, and the information on where to connect the extra wire was given. The entire installation procedure, which included removal of the old and installation of the new with phone assistance, took only about 20 minutes. I have been very satisfied with this product, and with Honeywell's customer support.
