Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat

Customer Review: Exactly what I wanted
Summary: 5 Stars

Eventhough I had a great Honeywell programmable thermostat in my old house, I replaced the stock thermostat in my new house with a programmable thermostat that was recommended by Consumer's Reports. Needless to say, non-Honeywell thermostat quit working after two years and resulted in a $100 service call from my friendly heating and air conditioning repairman.

Now I have installed the Honeywell RTH7600D. Installation was easy, I read the instruction manual first, and everything worked perfectly. The only problem I had was with the programming and once I read the Programming Manual, I was able to make all of the changes that needed to be made.

Overall, the RTH7600D exactly what I wanted and I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Honeywell RTH7600 Touchscreen 7-day programmable thermostat
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered three Honeywell 7600 thermostats for our church. Because we have events at different times on different days of the week, a 7-day programable thermostat was a must. We have two thermostats that control two furnaces and ac's for our auditorium. For these units to work properly they must be controlled identically. Having watched their performance for the past several weeks, it appears that is exactly what is happening. The thermostats arrived ahead of schedule and were quite easy to install. Programing was a bit difficult, but doable. Two problems we experience is keeping foreign fingers off the settings and I have not as yet discovered a permanent hold for the temperature. They were a good investment and we are happy.

Customer Review: Program before use
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this thermostat as an upgrade from one that didn't auto-switch between heat and cool. while I haven't noticed a difference between the two in energy savings, I haven't had a problem with this unit. The one point that I do feel is important is that you MUST read the directions and program the unit properly before you use it. The instructions are online and are included with the unit. The programming interface isn't hard, but it can be confusing. Make sure you follow step by step and pay attention to both the thermostat and the manual and you should be ok.

The one improvement I would have would be to make the backlight turn on at ANY touch on the screen, instead of just a button. That is a minor problem, though.

Customer Review: Good but not great
Summary: 3 Stars

Easy to install and phone support on a wiring question was excellent. Once mounted, the thermostat is less than solid - it is possible to send signals to the A/C unit by pressing on the thermostat housing. While you can program 7 days with four periods within each day, if you are going on vacation, you must do so before you leave and reset the program when you return. Can't create a temporary program for a given period as you can do with other programmable thermostats. Have already noted a reduction in electricity consumed so the unit will pay for itself even on the factory setting.

Pros - Easy installation - good support
Cons - flimsy when installed - only ONE program and no temporary settings.

Customer Review: Not a good choice for a heat pump with backup heating
Summary: 1 Stars

Bought for a heatpump with electric auxillary heat. I noticed that when the unit is bringing the house up to the programmed temp in the morning from 62 to 70 which are the recommended settings, the auxillary heat kicks on. Called Honeywell and they said I am correct and there is nothing you can do about it except buy a model in the 6000, 8000 or 9000 series which they call contractor models. with those you can override the 3 degree limit before auxillary heat kicks on.
Easy enough to install once you find that the heatpump information is covered later in the manual.
Read both manuals to setup the programs correctly. They have a short version in one but it skips most of the important steps.
