Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: Pretty Awesome Thermostat- Crossing my fingers though Summary: 4 Stars
Just replaced my current White rodgers Basic Digital Thermostat with this Honeywell 7 day programmable touchscreen product. Took 10 minutes to install (amazingly simple and intuitive) and that was with me being extra careful and deliberate.
Pros - easy to understand screen layout; useful and energy saving 7 day programming capability that was extremely easy to program to personal settings; looks good on the wall too; great price on Amazon in comparison to big box retailers such as Home Depot or Lowes - Amazon you rock!
Cons - does not have a separate button to engage the screen light; so far the programming feature isn't working as well as I hoped: For example my generic daily program is the following: 7am - 70 degrees, 8am - 62 degrees, 6pm - 70 degrees, 11pm - 62 degrees. Basically, the thermostat will engage the furnace in order to reach those temperatures by those set times. This morning, the furnace kicked on at 5:30am, in order to ensure 70 degrees by 7am. by 6am, I was sweating in bed - it had already reached 70 degrees. I have no idea why it felt the need to turn on 1.5 hours ahead of time, but the owners manual has some type of learning function that will alleviate this problem eventually. I guess it needs time to "learn" how quickly the house warms up. Hopefully that "learning" function works. If it doesn't, then this programming capability is complete garbage, and it would be a complete waste of money. I'm going to withhold final judgement though for now.
Customer Review: Easy to use, clear and well-lit, touchscreen very nice! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this Honeywell touchscreen thermostat to replace my about 14-year-old but still working previous programmable thermostat, which was hard to see, program, and use. This new one had excellent reviews, and I needed a basic, simple, large number, well-lit thermostat that would be easy to use. I also wanted one that came with an _automatic_ DST option. This has everything I need (and much I don't--since I don't have central air or need complicated daily programming settings). Installation was straightforward and simple. Unfortunately, there's no "c-wire" in the wall, so it has to run on its batteries, instead of off the electrical house current with its battery backup feature, but that's not really a problem either. Programming was very simple too: it's set for 68 degrees F at 7:30 am and automatically sets back to 62 degrees F at 11:30 pm. In between, with a simple touch, I can adjust up or down as needed, during cold weather, and also "lock" it to low off for as long as needed when the weather turns warm here in the Northeast. Numbers are big, internal lighting clear. It's also accurate to the degree--and turns on and off as soon as the temperature is reached and holds it very steady. All in all, I recommend this thermostat for anyone who wants simplicity and/or programmable complexity as well. It's well-designed too. As a 7-day programmable thermostat, it's also eligible for energy savings rebates. So far, definitely a very good buy, and Amazon got it here very quickly!
Customer Review: Efficient, Contemporary Thermostat Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this thermostat to replace a Robert Shaw thermostat that was present in the home I recently purchased. I think the existing thermostat was probably original to the home (25 years old). I never attempted to use the existing thermostat, so I don't have much to compare to in terms of cost savings after installing this Honeywell thermostat.
The Honeywell thermostat is very contemporary in terms of features and appearance. It features a touchscreen display that applies to the bottom and right portions of the display. The setup process was very straightforward. I have a simple gas furnace (again, original to the home). The only wires I needed to connect were Rs (hot wire, supplies power to the thermostat), and W (signals to the furnace that it should turn on or off). Once these were connected, everything worked perfectly.
I've made some minor customizations to the schedule. It ships preconfigured with EPA-recommended temperature settings. Those settings assume that the user is away from the home during the day, which is not the case with my family. So, I had to increase the temperature during the daytime to match the temperature used during the morning and evening. I also adjusted the temperature at night to be 66 degrees, since the default value of 62 is a bit on the low-side for me. Making these changes was very fast and intuitive. I like the fact that I can adjust the current temperature up or down without it affecting the schedule.
Customer Review: Honeywell RTH7600B: Great Thermostat; Great Customer Service Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased this Honeywell 7-day programmable thermostat (RTH7600) from Amazon for about $15 less than it was offered at Lowe's Home Improvement. I decided to install it on Saturday while the kids napped.
Installation was super-easy (I've never installed a thermostat before). The packaging says it's a 15-minute install, and it was; though I didn't need to drill holes for the mount b/c this new thermostat fit on the holes drilled for my old thermostat I was replacing.
What stumped me was programming the thing (the thermostat is highly customizable), and my first thought was: "Why did I do this on a Saturday afternoon? Either no one will answer the 800 number, or I'll be in voicemail hell." I was wrong on both counts.
The customer service line WAS answered on a Saturday afternoon, and the CSR walked me through the programming process and asked me -- repeatedly -- if I understood everything or if I'd like him to go over it one more time. (It's actually not that difficult once you do it once). I was blown away by the help, and I'll definitely consider Honeywell for future purchases.
The thermostat has been up and running for a couple days now with no problems at all. (My favorite aspect of this 'stat is the fact that the backlighting is *really* bright.) Very easy to see/use at night. All around good experience. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Nice unit, easy to install, easy to use Summary: 5 Stars
My house only have a one-stage furnace, so installing it was as easy as swapping two wires. (If your setup is complicated, and you're not confident about installing it, by all means get someone to do it for you.)
I haven't had a programmable thermostat since my Honeywell Chronotherm III gave up the ghost a decade ago; it was one of the first with Smart Response Technology. Basically, it learns how far in advance it needs to kick the heat on to bring it to your desired temperature at the time you select. That's a nice feature and makes this unit worth the extra cost.
I'm also unforgiving about the ease-of-use aspect; if I need to crack the user manual to make an electronic device go, that's a design flaw. No worries on that score - I had it going straightaway. (The manual is useful for learning about its various features, of course.)
The touchscreen is crisp and responsive. I agree with other reviewers that the backlight needs to be activated by a touch anywhere on the screen, and not just on a button. (Doing so requires you to undo whatever your touch did.) Still, there really isn't much need to play with it once you've got it programmed.
On the whole it's a good unit. Honeywell's been in this business for a long time.
