Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell RTH7600D Touchscreen 7-Day Programmable Thermostat

Customer Review: Good Unit, affordable and saves lots of money in energy.
Summary: 4 Stars

I have give it to Honeywell, this touchscreen programamable thermostate is an oustanding performer when it comes to saving you money in energy bills. Not only you can program it to your needs. i.e. Wake, leave, sleep for the whole week, but also mantains the temperature to 1 degree precision. My old thermostat did not do that, it used to swing 3 to 4 degrees more to the temperature setting, and that where you waste your money in energy cost.
I chose the touchscreen because it is easier to program and the screen is bigger.
Note: One word of caution, this unit does not have a on/off bottom, everything is done thru the touchscreen.
I left my heating furnace off by accident when I left home to work and when I retuned from work, I found the house really cold. Make sure you system is on in the screen.
I guess one thing that honeywell can improve is by alerting that the system status is off with a flashing icon or a different color or font

Customer Review: Nice thermostat
Summary: 4 Stars

After doing some online research I finally decided to replace my 15 year old thermostat today. At the local big box hardware store there were many to choose from so I had to look closely to find one that was for a heat pump. It ended up that there was only two to chose from so I chose the Honeywell RTH7600D over the store branded universal even though it was 3 times more expensive. After reading through the instructions and looking at my current thermostat I decided to go for it. It only took about 20 minutes and it was up and running. I have never replaced one before so it was an adventure. I have done some minor electrical work before so I was not afraid to try. The install was easier than the programming. It pays to read the instructions before replacing, not like the other person did and complained about it with a one star rating review. Overall, I am pleased with product, but I wished I would have bought it on Amazon and saved about $13.00!

Customer Review: Read all the directions
Summary: 4 Stars

Matching the wires was a breeze .. however, I went from a Honeywell manual thermostat to this one. The color coding of the wires matched exactly. Now .. here is the important part -- make sure you read all the instructions. The part I skipped over was the "Advanced Installation" chapter. The first time I installed the unit, it would not turn on the heat. The display showed "Heat On", but nothing was coming out of the vents (I have a heat pump). So I re-installed the old thermostat since I couldn't be without heat. Later, after reading the manual again, I came across the setting that made all the difference -- 0170 "Select System Type". The default value wasn't my type of unit so after changing it to the correct type, all is well. So .. lesson learned. RTFM ... ALL OF IT! I gave it a FOUR STAR rating as I haven't gone through a long enough break-in period to rate it higher but I suspect it will be a 5-star.

Customer Review: EXCELLENT for general home use
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently replaced both thermostats in my 2-zone home with this product. Installation is very easy, taking about 10 minutes per unit.

Before, the temperature in the house was erratic, sometimes varying more than 8 degrees above or below the programmed temp. Also, the difference in temperature between floors was very noticeable, even though they were programmed the same.

Now, with this product in place, the temperature stays VERY consistent. Every single time I've looked at the temp, it's been within 1 degree of the programmed temperature (as advertised), and there is no noticeable difference between floors.

The features are pretty easy to set up, even without using the directions thanks to an intuitive interface, and the 7-day programming offers plenty of flexibility.

I've noticed a significant improvement in the comfort of my home.

RECOMMENDED.

Customer Review: Horrible usability, good performance
Summary: 3 Stars

This thermostat does provide 7 day control, fully automatic heat/cool switching (as long as you go into the confusing numeric code based advanced setup), and excellent and solid home temperature without wild temperature swings. However, usability and setup is DIFFICULT and very confusing. Additionally, and the reason I'll send this back, is it makes a fairly loud CLICK each time it cycles the system on/off. I can hear it in the family room while watching TV and the thermostat is down the hall, it's that loud. Additionally, while it does have a backlight to make the display easy to read it ONLY comes on when you are programming the unit. This makes it impossible to look at the display in near/full darkness.

If it had some sort of always-on low-backlight setting and was silent in it's operation I'd be a fully happy camper and would buy another one for my upstairs HVAC. Instead this one goes back.
