Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell TH8110U1003 Vision Pro 8000 Digital ThermostatCustomer Review: Bad touch screen? Summary: 3 Stars
We have had ours for 2 1/2 years and most of the touch screen is unusable & nonresponsive. Warranties are only good if the company backs them up - and Honeywell does not back them up without having you jump through a bunch of hoops. We had our thermostat installed by an electrician. But we are not going to pay for an electrician to come out and verify the thermostat is not functioning. Honeywell obviously doesn't trust their customers and doesn't back up their products. Looking to replace this thermostat with a different brand but for what we want choices are limited. We would like one with the circulate feature where the thermostat turns the furnace fans on/off to keep the air in the house circulated. This is a very expensive thermostat to only last a few years and to have a company want you to pay for an electrician to verify the unit isn't working and uninstall/reinstall it. It will be less expensive to just replace it - thus really no warranty.
3/28/2011 - For those that have had the touch screen become unresponsive - there may be a solution. I took mine off the base and pressed the touch screen all over it and it seems to have fixed it. Perhaps if you don't use the touch screen for some time it becomes unresponsive. After doing this it is working fine again. Will change my rating from 1 star to 3 stars and see how it goes.
4/8/2011 - Touch screen was still not working all the time. Paid the electrician $75 to come out and replace it. Hopefully the touch screen on this one lasts longer than 2 1/2 years. Love the features and the thermostat - when it is working.
Customer Review: Good Thermostat Summary: 4 Stars
I bought the product at Amazon.
I installed it myself and it works well.
It is a nice product. I like the detailed settings, programmability, backlight and touchscreen.
I had a question about 1-stage transformer vs 2-stage transformer. I emailed Honeywell and they said it is a contractor model and won't answer the question. Bad Honeywell!!! I talked to a few friends and figured it out.
The setup was a breeze and requires that you have the manual handy. That was no big deal. You need a 3 mm small screwdriver which I picked up from HomeDepot.
I have set the fan to circulate during most time periods. Let's see how that turns out.
One of the concerns is that it seems to cycle (turn on and off) a bit too frequently. I had set the 0240 (cycle rate) to 5. I have changed it to 3 today. Again wait and watch.
The click when the system changes some setting is loud and a little annoying. The clicking sound should be configurable IMO.
I had some confusion about setting 0180 - Fan Control. I have set it to 0 even though I have a gas furnace. I wish there there was more detailed description on the option.
All in all a good product.
<Update>
If your current thermostat is a Honeywell (as in my case), it is a breeze to install.
The clicking of the relays is a little annoying. I think Honeywell should have a way to have that quieter.
I figured out the Cycles Per Hour (CPH) and Fan control settings. Now everything works well.
Hopefully it will pay for itself in a couple of months.
Highly recommended
Customer Review: Vision Pro Digital Thermostat is Awesome Summary: 5 Stars
After looking at every thermostat made, I purchased this one from Plumbing World at a very reasonable price compared to what's available from the chain stores. It arrived within a few days just as pictured on the site.
I literally opened the package, took three minutes to read the instructions which don't make much sense as far as wiring goes unless you're an electrician. But the diagrams for dummies were fairly clear. It took 45 seconds to remove my old worthless thermostat, 2 minutes to install the new back plate, 1 1/2 minutes to put the proper color wire in the proper slots and 1/2 minute to put the thermostat in place. Done, simple, worked immediately.
3 minutes spent reading the instructions on how to program the thermostat prepared me to spend the next 5 minutes easily programming the unit. A few of the higher functions make no sense if you don't install heaters and A/C professionally and are best left at the factory presets and work great.
It couldn't have been easier or simpler and it works great!!!! It's a dream. I don't know if it'll save money (it should) but it sure is nice to have it warm when you want it so and saving money when you aren't home. I'm going to buy another to replace the thermostat downstairs too.
Granted, installation may not be so easy if your home isn't relatively new, if your heating system is not mainstream or other permutations. In this case you may need someone with a little bit of electrical expertise. But I have no electrical knowledge except a little common sense and this was a breeze.
Customer Review: Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this thermostat! I had a programmable thermostat before that came with our furnace. It was nice, but the one feature that was missing was the ability to program the fan to go on and off at certain times for purposes of circulating the air. My old thermostat only had "auto" and "on" switches for the fan. I wanted the ability to turn the fan on to circulate air even when the furnace or air conditioner were not running. For example, in the morning I want the fan to come on just before I wake up. This will start to circulate the air in the house to equalize the temperature. The moisture from my shower will also circulate throughout the house, which has relatively dry air from the furnace in the winter. So when the rest of the family wakes up and goes downstairs, there's not much of a temperature or humidity shock. Before, I would have to run downstairs to automatically turn the fan on. "Auto" was not enough because it would only be on for 5 or 10 minutes while the furnace was running. I wanted it on all the time between 6am and 8am.
I found that most programmable thermostats (even high end ones) don't have this ability to program your fan. But eventually I found this model and it has the ability to program the fan! It also has a circulate feature that will run the fan to circulate the air about 20 minutes per hour. This is a bonus!
This is very use and easy to install. I just matched the wires from the wiring on my old thermostat and it worked instantly!
Great product!
Customer Review: Fan circulation feature is a must have Summary: 5 Stars
We have been using our thermostat for a couple of months and we are already starting to see a savings. Just took it a day or so for the adaptive recovery feature to fine-tune itself to come on at the right time in the morning.
If you have a 2 story or multi-level home with a single source system for heating and cooling you already know how stuffy and warm it can get in your upstairs rooms, especially during cooling season. The fan on this unit has a "Circulate" feature that will insure that the air gets moved around each hour even if it doesn't need to run the A/C. And it doesn't just run the fan all the time either which always seemed wasteful and overkill to me. This mode can be individually programmed per time period to so you aren't doing it unnecesarily during your away times.
The touch screen menu is very intuitive, if I were to suggest any future improvements it would be to make the same day overriding when you are home a little more intuitive, as it is you have to readjust the temperature from it's setback point and then possibly adjust the pop-up override time to get it to hold until your next period, it would be nice if it had a feature like the Hunters do that says "Home Today" and make it a one button push. But that is a minor gripe, this thing works great and I highly recommend it!
