Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell TH8110U1003 Vision Pro 8000 Digital Thermostat

Customer Review: Best thermostat you can buy, and NOT hard to install
Summary: 5 Stars

First, if you know anything about installing thermostats, it's no harder than any other. In other words, there are 4-7 colored wires, and you have to put them in the right place. That's it.

Now, for the thermostat, it is just beyond good. From the easy programming to the flexibility of the options, to the FULL AUTO mode so you never have to worry about switching from heat to cool again, it's a set and forget job. And the options for temp and holiday hold, the circulation feature that keeps your whole house more constant, etc. Great.

Remember, this is a single stage model, but there are slightly more expensive versions for multi-stage setups, so choose the right one. Most people will be fine with the 8110. Even if you live in an apartment or a rental, buy this, install it, save money, be more comfortable, then put the old one back before you move out. it's worth it.

Customer Review: Amazon or Climate Doctors not selling as advertised
Summary: 1 Stars

This is a great thermostat, but unfortunately this model doesn't function as advertised. After reading the first and several other Amazon opinions and reading up on the specs from Honeywell's own website, I was under the impression that this model was FULL AUTO and I could 'set it and forget it.' After installing the thermostat, I realized that not ALL of the the Switch Positions (System) HEAT-OFF-COOL-AUTO exist on the thermostat I received. There is no System AUTO meaning you have to switch it COOL when it is hot and switch to HEAT when it is cold. The sticker that contains the model number matches, but my thermostat doesn't function according to the specs for that model. I have emailed Climate Doctors with no response, so buyer beware on who you are dealing with and exactly what they are shipping you.

Customer Review: Professional opinion
Summary: 5 Stars

I am an Air conditioning technician for 9 years. The Vision PRO 8000 is the best thermostat ever made, in my opinion. It has auto-changeover, intelligent recovery, seven-day programming, hold, arm-chair programming, it is not cheap feeling like many thermostats you buy from home depot. It works with any system including two and three stage heat pumps. The touchscreen can be slightly non-responsive, although I have never had a callback or complaint with one of these thermostats. The one in our office is absolutely trouble free and saves us a lot of money and time. I cannot believe that Consumer Reports rated another brand higher, that brand does not have auto-changeover or work on heat pumps. We give a lifetime guarantee on these thermostats because they absolutely never(yet) break down.

Customer Review: An excellent thermostat
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this to replace an old 'yo-yo' Honeywell. The old unit worked perfectly, but I wanted something programmable. The interface is well thought out and clean; the menus are easy to understand -- it's easy to find exactly what you're looking for, making the manual almost superfluous; and it is dead-on accurate in terms of temperature sensing. The hard part for me was figuring out what kind of HVAC system was in my house, as I never wired one of these up before. It was a piece of cake once I figured out what I was working with -- a 4 wire system, 1 heat zone, 1 cooling zone. I connected the 5th wire (ground) so I could have the backlight on all of the time. I am happy with this unit, and would recommend it to anyone looking to buy a fully programmable unit with a touch screen.

Customer Review: touch screen is flaky
Summary: 1 Stars

Seven day programmability in a usable interface makes this a pretty good thermostat. One can remove it from the wall and programm it holding it one's hand though I rarely do that as the programming is very easy and quick.

I was happy with it initially. But after a few months, the touchscreen started giving problems - sometimes it would respond to touch, sometimes not. I replaced the batteries thinking that may be the problem. It worked after replacing batteries; it sometimes worked anyway so it was hard to tell right away if batteries fixed the problem or not. But the problem remains, the touch screen is very flaky. The backlight comes on for no reason and stays on at arbitrary times. I am replacing it with a push button based model.
