I installed this thermostat in my new home to replace the cheap builder installed thermostat. I love this device. It provides a touch screen controlled menu of functions. My favorite is the fan recycle function which will run the fan only approx. 20 minutes per hour. This recirculates the air in the home and more equalizes the temp throughout the house. It also helps to better filter the air.
An option for this thermostat is for an outside temperature sensor. I don't have it but it supposed to sense how long it will take to return the home to a new set temperature based upon the outside temperature. It will then start your system at that time.

A nice thermostat with many features.
1. Easy to program and adjust.
2. Acts as a night light if you change a code setting.
3. As easy to mount and install as any other thermostat.
Not so nice:
1. You need the manual to look up code numbers to change settings.
2. The thermostat keeps the temperature within one degree of set temperature. This sounds good on paper, but in the real world it causes constant on and off cycling of the heater. This setting cannot be changed! It would be wonderful to have it set to allow a 2 or 3 degree differential before it turned the heater on again.

I have purchased 4 of these in 2 houses- and like the thermostat- BUT- one of the last ones I purchased has a flakey touchscreen. You really have to push and push to get it to recognize a command. When calling Honeywell (twice)- I learned- they won't honor any warranty directly with the customer. You must have a contractor come out to get it replaced.
So- you could buy a new one for $100- or pay for 2 service calls to get yours fixed under warranty. In other words- there is no warranty if you install it yourself. I'm irritated by this and wouldn't buy another product from them now...
Customer Review: nice thermostat, but honewell is being annoying

This thermostat is great. However, it was only after I installed it and e-mailed a question to Honewell that I discovered that they think that this is a contractor only item. They refused to answer a simple question, and directed me to hire an hvac person. Since neither the box, nor the online store I bought this from make any reference to such a restriction, I believe their position is illegal, and am considering reporting them to the MA Attorney General's office (who has a special office to handle consumer fraud.). Despite daunting installation instructions, including the admonition that only trained professionals should do the installation, actual installation was very easy. A peek behind my old thermostat revealed just 4 wires - red, white, green, yellow, each connected to a terminal labeled R, W, G and Y respectively. This Honeywell unit has the same color terminal designations. The hardest part turned out to be ensuring, for esthetic reasons, that I installed the case level since the top edge is slightly curved.
Ease of set up and programming was impressive.
