Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell TH8320U1008 7day 3/h 2/c Vision PRO 8000 Touchscreen Programmable ThermostatCustomer Review: Easy to use, a little difficult to install, but very customizable Summary: 5 Stars
I recently bought this product because I got tired of setting my manual thermostat everyday. I've had it for a few days and so far it's been easy to use and program, the touchscreen is the icing on the cake.
Things you should know before installing:
1) Look up wiring diagrams for your current thermostat to figure out which wires do what. This will help you with wiring your honeywell..
2) Know if your heating system is multi-stage (with Emergency or Aux heat, etc). This will help you configure your Honeywell to the type of system you have.
Once you know this information, installation isn't all that difficult. Now, the interface for configuring advanced options on the honeywell takes a little deciphering but is easy to understand. It even comes with 4 testing modes to let you know if you've configured it right. The documentation is short, but has enough information to let you figure things out on your own.
All-in-all I'm very pleased with the customization abilities, touchscreen interface, and documentation that came with the product.
Customer Review: works great Summary: 5 Stars
thermostat works great.. the hardest part is figureing out the wires/conections from your old system.. i installed to a newer heat pump..
read both manuals and install the batteries and sit on the couch and program.. its that easy..
one note from prev installer.. you can set 2 differant lockouts for a heat pump.. 1 is when the emergency heat activates between 60 degrees down to 40 degrees.. the other is when the heat pump is locked out and only the emergency heat will work, it will start at 35 degrees and go down to 15.. you have the choice of going all the way to 15 degrees.. both the emergency heat and the heat pump work between 40/15 and 40/60 degrees.. as long as you take you time and program it, its easy.. once installed on the wall you can still tweek your setup.. for me the heat controls the O/B.. when the heat pump changes to heat it flips the valve.. i found out in the test menu, test heat and AC turned on.. so i changed the O/B to 1 and it fixed it..
happy installing
Customer Review: Satisfied Customer Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Honeywell TH8320 to replace an existing analog thermostat. I needed the following:
1) Programmable settings
2) Keypad Lockout
3) Auto Changeover
4) Filter reminder (this is a nice thing to have not required)
I removed the old thermostat and installed the new one in about 15 minutes. I had one wiring error (labels were different on the old thermostat). When I first tried to power on the Heat Pump it went into heat mode. I then realized I had not configured it for my system which is 2Heat/1Cool Heat Pump with Ext Heat. This unit comes standard as 1H/1C Conventional. Once I set up the unit for my heat pump it was up and running with no other problems.
I do ike the pre-programmed schedule. Even if you don't use their defaults it takes minor adjustments to personalize it. I will definitely be getting another one of these for my other zones in the house and garage apartment.
Customer Review: I Love it!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been reading the message boards for HVAC installers and they have great things to say about this thermostat. I have a heat pump which I understand is more complicated than other systems to install a thermostat on. My house is warm for the first time since I bought the house 3 years ago. The system comes on and goes off at will. It is fool-proof to set up the daily schedules and I love how the fan will circulate the air for few minutes each hour. It is probably more thermostat than my little townhouse with heat pump needs but I love it! I'm still debating the outside sensor which I would use to set it to automatically switch to emergency heat when the temp hits less than 30 degrees. I had planned on getting it but the system is so easy to set to emergency heat manually I can't justify it.
Addendum: I bought the outdoor sensor and I love it even more (if possible). I never even think about the furnace or the AC.
Customer Review: 2 issues caused me to replace this Summary: 3 Stars
This was a good thermostat for me. I researched it for awhile before buying, and I loved it but...
*The first issues I have might not be a problem if you have a newer AC unit in a sealed up house. However, I have an older (leaky) house and haven't upgraded the AC yet. Since this only lets the temp get 1 degree out of the desired temp, my AC was sometimes immediately turning back on after it rested from turning off the last time.
*The second issue I had was it was too difficult to run the wire for the remote temp sensor so I could never use it. If I had been able to use that, I would have been happier with it. (This is not really their fault, but it was solved by a thermostat with a wireless remote)
I would buy it again. In fact I gave it to a friend with a new house knowing that they would be happy with it.
