Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hoover F5835-900 SteamVac Supreme Steam Vacuum Cleaner - RefurbishedCustomer Review: Do Not waste your money!!!! Summary: 1 Stars
I owned a different hoover prior to this one and that seemed to work pretty well with some of the same design flaws. But since it cleaned well I lived with those flaws until it died. I bought this assuming they would have improved on the product. Big mistake!!!
Here is a list of things that are wrong with this steamvac:
1. Very short electrical cord. I have to stop and plug the unit into another outlet to get one room cleaned.
2. There are separate water chambers for clean/dirty water (a plus) but the dirty chamber fills up faster than the clean one empties. This is a minor issue you could live with but to empty the dirty one you have to lay the unit flat with water in the clean chamber, of course getting water everywhere.
3. emptying either water chamber is a mess!
4. When you are done using the unit and shut it off, even if both water chambers are empty, water leaks all over the floor. It is clean water but still another mess to clean up.
5. The area where the suction is (see thru area on the front) it attached to the base and very difficult to remove with a screwdriver to clean. Hence I can SEE all the dog hair building up and interfering with the suction of the unit, I just can't clean it out.
6. The procedure to switch to the stair and upholstry cleaner is cumbersome. again you have to lay the unit flat take out the dirty water chamber and switch a piece (and heaven forbid don't lose the piece you took out because the unit won't work at all!) and attach the hose in 2 places.
7. The scrubbing hand tool doesn't work! So much for cleaning upholstry. The other attachment works minimally, spraying a feeble attempt at water. Forget cleaning 13 stairs!
8. When you are done with the hand tools and put the machine back together, the hand tool hose leaks all over so you had better put it in the bathtub. Also I can't get the hose reattached to the unit so it takes up more room to store.
9. There is no heating element to this unit so if you get pulled away while cleaning, the water will be cold when you return.
10. The bristles on the front bottom of the unit don't do anything except collect nasty stuff and need to be cleaned.
All that said, I have used it for about 3 years maybe 3 times per year and it is nice to have something for spills or dog emergencies. It usually gives me a chamber full of disgusting water but that probably says more about needing to clean the carpets more often than the efficacy of this machine. I wish I would have done my homework on this one!
