Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hoover Flair Bagless Stick Vacuum, Bagless, S2200

Customer Review: Cheap Plastic - Otherwise Would Be a Good Item For The $$
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased the FLAIR Sept 07 from Amazon. It was just what I wanted for light sweeping in my kitchen. I handled my FLAIR 2200 with normal care. I only had about 20 minutes vacuuming time on when it broke!! The nozzle was hanging by the internal power wire -- rendering the FLAIR unusable.

The CHEAP BLACK PLASTIC part that enables the power nozzle to "SWIVEL" BROKE. Then I engaged in a series of emails with HOOVER -- I wrote explaining what happened and they responded with one canned 'noreply' email after the other.

The FLAIR was still under warranty -- but there are no 'HOOVER certified' repair shops around me. The closest Hoover repair shop was 2 hours driving time.

After more emails -- begging for a 'real person' to respond to me without a 'canned reply', the best Hoover would do was keep telling me to take the broken Hoover FLAIR to a 'local' service center -- it is was not convenient for me to drive to the 'local' Hoover service center, then I should MAIL it to the service center - at my expense both ways.

There was no way I was going to drive a 4 hour round trip to get a $60.00 item repaired. Hoover's suggestion was that I "mail" the HOOVER flair to the repair shop -- at my expense -- was unacceptable to me. So, I wasn't going to get my Hoover Flair repaired under its warranty - $60 isn't a lot of money to Hoover but it is to me.

I went back and forth with Hoover -- begging them to simply send me a new "plastic part" so I could repair the FLAIR 2200 myself .. but they started sending canned emails again... we were back to the beginning.

My husband drilled some holes in the Hoover and put some screws in it to hold the nozzle onto the body of the FLAIR -- so it works -- but it doesn't swivel anymore. Needless to say, no more Hoovers here.

We bought a new MEILE cannister vacuum - the only way to go... worth the money and eliminated the broken plastic worries.

Don't buy this item.

Customer Review: Only for very light touch ups, don't expect much from this hunk of junk!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this to vacuum my living room (12' x 12') carpet and kitchen floor. Since I live in a remote part of Alaska and our stay is only temporary, I thought this would prevent me from having to buy a big and expensive vacuum. Boy what a dissapointment! First of all, the thing overheats after 5 minutes of use and leaves behind a horrible smell. Second, the canister filter is flimsy and clogs very easily. I went to pull fuzz and dog hair out of the filter and it tore. Third and most frustrating, it only picks up about 1/3 of the dog hair on my low pile carpet and no hair at all off regular carpet (which is why I only used it in my living room and kitchen). This does not have a rotating brush so it does not "sweep up" anything off the carpet or floor. Fouth, after I turn it off and pick it up, anything heavier than dust is dropped back on the floor.

I used this hunk of junk for a month but I still had to use a broom on my carpet before and after using this vacuum to get teeny tiny crumbs or scraps of paper (hole punch size) off either floor. Thankfully, a gal in camp had a Bissel Lift Off that she left to me when she moved to save me from 2 hours a day of sweeping my carpet. Upon vacuuming my 12' X 12' living room, there was 2 canisters full of dust and dirt. Side note: This was brand new carpet, only 4 weeks old. Now, I do live in a logging camp with dirt roads and a lot of dust and dirt, but once I saw how much stuff came up with the Bissel, it really showed me how much the Flair left in the carpet despite vacumming twice a day and using a broom.

Sadly, this is going to the incinerator tomorrow because I can't ship it back to Amazon.

Bottom line, unless you live in a very clean area already with little to no dust, this thing will just cause more frustration than satisfaction of a clean floor.

Customer Review: Got a dog and hardwood floors? Get this vacuum
Summary: 5 Stars

Rarely am I impressed by any product that seems to be a little too "reasonably priced", but I'm happy to say that this time I was extremely pleased.

My main purpose for purchasing "another" vacuum is that I just adopted a new pooch and I have hardwood floors. POOCH + HARDWOOD FLOORS = Dog Hair EVERYWHERE. I have a perfectly good vacuum, but it's a bit large and I wanted something light enough for easy maneuvering while being powerful enough to effectively clean up all the dog hair.

After a brief jaunt around the Internet to peruse the reviews, I found several good comments on the Hoover Flair Bagless Stick Vacuum S2200. At less than forty "ducats" including shipping, it seemed worth trying. I found it super simple to assemble (I think there are only three pieces to put together and required no tools) and was vacuuming my floors in minutes after I took it out of the box.

WOW!!! I couldn't believe how well it picked up dog hair and dirt. I must have had to change the reusable filter bag 3 or 4 times after vacuuming just two rooms ( and no, the rooms weren't that dirty). The only minor criticism I have would be what others have already said; the power cord is a little short. It's not a "deal breaker" by any stretch, but if it were 2 or 3 feet longer, this mini-vac would be perfect.

The vacuum comes with just a one year warranty, but for $40 if it lasts that long I'll be happy. Other than that you can't beat the performance and the price. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Customer Review: Great Suction for a Little Vacuum
Summary: 4 Stars

I have the model without the powerbrush. The suction on bare floors is very good to excellent--it probably helps there is no brush in the way. It picks up kitty litter and dry cat food kibble with ease. I originally bought the Electrolux Pronto, but had to return it because the suction was not good enough. Also, the Electrolux Pronto ran out of battery after 12 minutes! This little Hoover Flair has so much more power than the Electrolux, so it was worth putting up with a corded vacuum for the increased suction power.

On the downside, the vacuum does not stand up by itself. It is meant to be hung from a nail or hook on the wall. I set it on carpet, so it will not slide, and lean it against the wall for now, but will be installing a hook to hang it. Although the dirt cup is easy to empty, the pop out filter collects pet hair and dust which I have to either pick off (like a dryer lint filter) over the trash can or quickly brush off with a toothbrush. Hey, this proves the suction is great because I would rather have dust in the filter than on my floor! You could also just shake the filter outside.

This vac has a swivel head which works very well for getting around table legs and such. It is easy to maneuver and much lighter than my canister vac powerhead with hose. Overall, I am very pleased with the suction and convenience of this little vacuum for bare floors.

Customer Review: Great until it fell apart
Summary: 2 Stars

With new low pile carpeting (berber) and tile floors elsewhere in my home, this seemed to be the perfect solution and alternative to my trusty Kenmore. The Hoover was easy to handle, descent suction, fairly easy to empty the canister (albeit slightly messy as the dust/dirt tended to "fly" a bit), long electrical cord and an overall lightweight appliance easy enough to manage under tables and chairs and such. However, the third use resulted in a crack in the foot that attaches to the body - this resulted merely from preparing to turn off the machine - too much pressure when placed upright? One crack lead to another, then chunks flew off to the point that the bottom no longer stayed attached to the unit, no way to replace the part without replacing the entire base/foot - not cost effective and of course, past the 30 day return. If the hard plastic connection from foot to base were reinforced or if a preventive measure of duct tape or such around the connection were made I believe this minor adjustment would resolve this unfortunate complication. A call to Hoover netted "ah, sorry to hear of that, never heard of a problem like that before". I didn't know the one I bought for my sister had done the same thing until after I shared the details of my call to Hoover with her. She agrees it's a good concept, but plagued by an otherwise minor flaw.
