Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hoover Flair Bagless Stick Vacuum, Bagless, S2200Customer Review: People...do your homework! Summary: 4 Stars
People, people, people...Please DO NOT buy a stick vac for carpet!!!! They don't do well! If you have a house full of carpet, this product, (or any other stick vac), is going to frustrate you! If you bought a stick vac for carpeting, your review should immediately be stricken from this forum! That said...
I love this little cleaner. I have 2 big dogs, (pergo and tile floors), and I have no problem grabbing this vac and spinning around the house. Suction is great. I make beaded earrings and this even sucks up the run-a-way beads on the floor, (small ones).
The way the head pivots and being able to lay the body flat to the floor enables you to get WAY under furniture and around their legs.
Down sides? The cord could be a little longer, not being able to stand it up takes a little getting used to and I wish it had a bag, (I think all bagless vacs are disgusting to empty!).
If you want the PERFECT cleaning solution...grab this stick vac for your hardwood/pergo/tile and a Hoover Tempo Widepath for your carpeting. I replaced my mega-buck O---k with the $40 Flair and the $54 Tempo and I've never been happier! Tempo is Consumer Reports Best Buy and even though it isn't sold as a "self propelled", it IS! Great suction too. (Make sure you select the correct carpet height, too low and it heats up!) Happy cleaning!
Customer Review: Great little vacuum! Summary: 4 Stars
We bought the Hoover Flair after researching such vacuums in Consumer Reports. Amazon provided the best price.
We are very glad we bought it. It is very powerful and picks up everything (including dog hair) from hardwood floors. Surprisingly, it picks up quite a lot from carpets, too, although it is not designed to do a thorough job on carpet (no beater bar, for example). The 20 foot cord is a good compromise between being long enough and not being so long as to get in the way.
Keep in mind that the Flair does NOT stand up. If you need to put it down, it will simply lie on the floor. For storage we put a coat hook inside a closet and simply hang it up there.
Because the Flair plugs into the wall, the motor can be (and is) very powerful (7 amp I believe) and the suction does NOT fade with time, as often is the case with battery-powered vacuums like a "dust-buster" type.
The Flair is much lighter than a full-sized vacuum. The Flair does NOT have a bag; instead it uses a filter and collects dust and dirt in a chamber that you simply dump into the trash when it starts getting full. As for the method of collecting dirt in a chamber the Flair is very similar to a "dust-buster."
The bottom line is that we are very happy with the Flair.
Customer Review: PROBLEM WITH BREAKING HOUSING FIXED!!! Summary: 5 Stars
After reading some of the reviews here, I was concerned about buying this cleaner, even though it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for to replace my expired 1974 model Eureka electric broom (Brand loyalty lead me to look for another Eureka, but unfortunately, the company has been bought and sold several times, and they no longer make the quality product they did when I purchased my electric broom.) I visited my local independent vacuum dealer that I had used in the past in keeping my Eureka going all these years; and when he informed me he couldn't get the parts to rebuild the motor; I asked for his recommendation, and he endorsed the Hoover Flair. When I voiced my concern about the breaking housing, he showed me how the problem area has been reinforced - I mean the plastic tapers to 1" thick at this point. Hoover is now owned by Maytag, and they are concerned with making a quality product. Based upon that, and the strength evidenced by the thickness of the plastic in this area, I laid my fears to rest and bought the machine.
The vacuum performs EXCELLENTLY on both carpet and bare floors - I like the fact there is no metal on the nozzle to scratch my hardwood floors; and it also handles cat hair and cat litter with ease.
In summary, I recommend this cleaner WHOLEHEARTEDLY!!!
Customer Review: Great on bare floors, terrible on carpet. Summary: 4 Stars
I used this for the first time today to clean my apartment that is all hardwood except for the area rug in the living room. This product does not work well at all on carpet to pick up animal fur! It basically sucked up a little dirt and moved the fur around in globs that I could pick up by hand.
On the other hand, it was fantastic on the hardwood and tile. It was great at picking up dust bunnies and didn't blow them around at all. The suction was actually good enough to pick them up before the vacuum even reached them. It was also great on picking up cat litter without spitting it anywhere. That's the main reason I chose this one and it worked wonders. The largest item it had to pick up today was dry cat food and that was no problem.
The dust cup is very simple to empty and the filter is very easy to clean. You should plan on cleaning both after each use, but that pretty much consists of emptying and rinsing with warm water.
The vacuum is very easy to maneuver and it does work well under low furniture. It can practically lay flat on the ground and still pick up.
I would have given it five stars if it were advertised for bare floors only. For the price, definitely worth it but you'll want something else to do a nice job on carpet.
Customer Review: Perfect for wood, tile and marble floors! Great for pet hair, too! Summary: 4 Stars
With a large, furry dog who sheds and a house full of hardwood floors, I am always looking for a light and easy-to-use vacuum. After several failures with other products, I found the Hoover Flair. It is so lightweight, and the swiveling head lets me get in tight spaces like corners, around chair legs, and even under the sofa with no problem. A vast improvement over my full-size cyclonic vacuum. It works beautifully on wood, tile, marble and other hard surfaces. The Flair can be used on low-pile carpet and rugs, but I would use it for those only in a pinch.
Pet hair is particularly tricky, because most vacuums have brushes and/or a beater bar, in which my dog's hair gets caught. Pulling out hair that's wrapped around brushes and rollers is a huge pain. This Flair model (NOT the more expensive one with the Power Nozzle, which has a brush) doesn't have a brush. It's an open hole so the hair goes right into the chamber. The Flair has good suction and picks up just about everything.
The only con I can think of is I wish it had a longer cord, but this is minor. I can get around a normal sized room without changing outlets.
I highly recommend this vacuum and would have gladly paid more for it.
