Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hoover Flair Bagless Stick Vacuum, Bagless, S2200Customer Review: Does the job Summary: 4 Stars
Since I do not have much space in my condo (storage), I wanted to get rid of my old vacuum so I decided to go with a stick vacuum. This one does the job, but definitely is not a "direct replacement" to the one I had before.
Likes: good suction on edges, easy to maneuver, good suction overall, does not take much space, inexpensive.
Dislikes: I miss the tools to vacuum narrow areas (behind sink or toilet for example), you do get your hands dirty to clean it after use (unless you wear gloves), cord is shorter than a "standard" vacuum cleaner, does not stay up on itself (like upright vacuum cleaners) - you have to lean it against a wall or something for it not to fall.
I'm not sure how it works in carpet since I only have hardwood floors. I used it on my area rugs and it worked well on them. Overall I am satisfied with it (cost-benefit). It does a good job in picking up my dog's hair. Is it a good replacement for the "traditional" vacuum cleaners? NO. Would I recommend to friends? Yes, if they are going to use on hardwood and ceramic floors, but I would make the observations I made above about narrow corners, etc.
It's a decent vacuum for the money.
Customer Review: Flair Gets a B+ Summary: 4 Stars
I really wanted a Hoover Quick Broom, but they are no longer available, so I ordered the Flair. My goal was to avoid the expensive disposable filters that come with other "bagless" lightweight vacuums. These filters clog quickly, are a mess to clean and wash (as suggested by the manufacturer), and cost nearly $20 to replace (after six or so washes), making the vacuum very expensive to maintain. The clear dirt cup on the Flair makes it easy to see the accumulation of dirt and also allows a view of the fabric filter bag, which quickly becomes clogged with dust bunnies and needs to be kept cleaned off. Cleaning it is a messy, unsavory job, but it's a lot more cost effective to do that than it is to clean a nasty paper filter and then wash it and wait for it to dry before eventually replacing it with an expensive replacement filter. So far, nobody has created the perfect bagless stick vacuum, but the Flair will suffice for now. Flair is highly maneuverable and great for wood and vinyl floors, but it's nearly useless for the serious cleaning of dirty carpets and area rugs. I still need a full-size vacuum for that.
Customer Review: Worked great before it broke Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this vacuum the day after Christmas to clean hardwood floors, linoleum, and low pile area rugs. Mostly I use it to pick up crumbs left behind by my toddler and the rampant dust bunnies and hair (from me, not even a pet). It worked great and I loved it when I first got it. But we've had it for just over three months and the swivel head (which works so well and fits under all my furniture!) broke off. Upon further inspection it looks like it was cracked at some point and finally gave way. The piece that broke is where the "stick" fits into the swivel head.
The vacuum has a "full one year manufacturer warranty" but when we called, the company wanted $9.99 plus shipping to send us a replacement part (on a machine that cost me $35). The other option was a local service center but the closest authorized one is 45 miles away (and I'd have to pay upwards of $4 a gallon for gas to get there and back at least twice) and gets terrible reviews.
It broke after the return window expired so I can't return it.
I really enjoyed using it but it is obviously not durable, even with light use.
Customer Review: no suction Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased this because I wanted something light I could use everyday. I also bought one for my Son and soon to be daughter in law for an engagement gift.
I was so excited when it came and could not wait to use it.
Suction isn't too bad on hard wood floors if you empty the cup every 5 min., but it is terrible on carpet. It is so top heavy it is hard to maneuver and my arm gets tired fast. I have a dog and when I use it on the carpets it actually pushes the dog hair around. It does not suck it up. Even little pieces of fuzz have to be rolled over 100x's before it pick's it up or I get so disgusted I pick it up myself. I can get more done bending over and just picking everything up with my hands.
I have a cordless shark which does the same thing. I have a Swivel Sweeper which doesn't pick anything up and a Electrolux that is like wrestling a bear, it is so hard to use. I am not the kind of person to return things so I have a useless arsonel of useless vacuum cleaners.
I am so sick of these companies making false claims. I would not purchase this. Try something else.
Customer Review: after a year: still runs, still poor cleaning Summary: 1 Stars
This is the third in the Hoover series of lightweight stick vacuum's I've had in the last few years. Each is worse than the last measured by how well it can clean. When I bought this I read a lot of low ratings focused on the motor overheating but I've had no problems with that, and after a year it still runs. The problem is that it does a poor job of what a lightweight stick vacuum is supposed to do: pick up small amounts of dirt from bare floor or thin carpets. After a time I learned that the filter must be brushed completely free of dirt and lint AND washed under running water after every use in order for it work even minimally well. This is troublesome since the bag construction is flimsy, the wires that keep the bag from collapsing can come out of their sockets, and the wires are not easy to reposition. The vacuum is very nimble at getting into tight spots and under things, but in the end, if it can't do a better of job of light cleaning, and if cleaning and washing the filter after ever use isn't enough to get a decent result, then it's time for Hoover to do better.
