Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hoover L2310 GUV 10 Amp 5-Gallon Garage Utility VacuumCustomer Review: Really Quiet and Powerful Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this vaccum to replace my 20 year old shop vac that finally gave up the ghost.
Pro:
Super quiet. It is really nice to be able to clean up in the garage without first donning ear protection.
Wall mounted. The old wheeled shop vac seemed like it was always in the way. With this vaccum mounted on the wall, there is one less thing competing with my feet for floor space in the garage.
Cons:
Not portable. You can only clean as far as the hose goes. I can get my whole garage, but I can't vaccum a car in the drive way (If I relocate the vaccum closer to the front of the garage this would be less of an issue).
Emptying the bin is messy. The bottom half separates relatively easily but there is a dome shaped dust filter stuck in the upper half that has to be pulled out for cleaning. Pulling it out releases a huge cloud of fine dust right in the garage. It would be much better if the dust filter and debris can separated as a unit and then the whole assembly could be removed to a more approprate location (like the garbage can) for dissasembly and cleaning.
Wish:
Carpet sweeper: I wish this had an old fashioned carpet sweeper type attachemnt for getting the garage rugs clean. I suppose a powered beater attachement would be even better, but more expensive.
Customer Review: Hoover GUV Summary: 5 Stars
This is the 3rd shop Vac I have purchased. My first was a Dayton wet dry that lasted about 20 Years, my 2nd was a Craftsman wall mount that lasted about 7 years. The look and feel for the Hoover is very nice. This unit looks like it will last a long time as well. It is by far the quietest shop vac I have owned. I wore hearing protection while using my last 2 units. The Hoover is so quite you, the air that is sucked in the hose is louder than the motor. I consider myself a frequent user of my shop vacs. From time to time I do wood working in the garage as well as vacuuming my cars on a regular basis. My kids play travel sports so our cars are always filled with dirt & rocks from the fields. We go boating and as a result get sand & water in our cars as well. This vac has no problems sucking these messes out of our cars. The long hose is awesome. It reaches all 3 cars in my garage with some length to spare. The power cord on this vacuum is very short. Luckily I had an outlet in the right spot. The instructions tell you not to use an extension cord. The vacuum also gets hot while in use so you'll want to make sure it is mounted in a good place. It is 95 out today & I did do a lot of vacuuming. I would say this vacuum is priced cheap when looking at how quite it is & how well it sucks dirt.
Customer Review: Cheap hose? Bah. This is the best DRY vac I've ever owned. Summary: 5 Stars
Just got one of these and installed it in the garage. Two screws to hold the bracket--user longer ones as the included ones are a bit wimpy--hang, plug in and go. Took about 10 minutes.
Those who moan about a lack of power are wrong. This had enough power to suck up marble sized rocks as I moved across the garage. (They make a wonderful pinging sound when they hit the tank!) The one thing that did plug up the hose was lots of pine needles. That happened once.
Thirty feet of hose is nice. I stretched the hose out of the garage, across the breezeway and into the laundry room to vacuum lint out of our dryer. Couldn't have been easier. The hose is fine--mine felt just as solid as my Shop-Vax.
It is surprising quiet, too. Think this one is "noisy?" Fire up a good sized shop vac and you'll be deaf. This isn't silent, but it is no where near as loud as my 8 gallon ancient shop vac.
It isn't suitable for wet messes, but it'll get the lion's share of my use in the garage, cars and such.
If you want to suck nails out of the wall with your vac, get an industrial shop vac. If, like the rest of use, you need to use this occasionally, this will work nicely, thank you very much.
Customer Review: The GUV - not just a garage vac Summary: 5 Stars
The very best product I've purchased in a long time. Couldn't be more convenient to use and picks up everything. I do cat rescue and foster many cats and kittens, which means I have to vac daily.
When a friend showed me her Hoover GUV I knew my long search for the perfect machine was over. I keep the GUV in a central area of my 52' ranch home, the 30' hose reaches both ends and everything in between. It's like having central vac without the expense. The GUV is less noisy than my Oreck, and during 95% of it's use I am not near the motor. I have mostly bare flooring, but this machine does a very good job on my area rugs too. I keep the hose coiled in a large basket and it uncoils easily to follow me as I clean. Since I have major back and leg pain, not needing to lug anything around the house makes cleaning almost fun.
The GUV has some great tools included, but I can also use some of my Oreck brushes and even some left from my old Electrolux. In the month that I have been using this product it has done everything I need it to do. I can remove cat hair and scattered litter, vac my draperies, rugs, cat bedding, furniture and everything in between with ease . Purrfectly wonderful.
Customer Review: Underpowered? Bah. This thing is top notch. Summary: 5 Stars
