Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hoover L2310 GUV 10 Amp 5-Gallon Garage Utility VacuumCustomer Review: Competition is better! Summary: 3 Stars
I was looking for a garage vacuum that was easy to access, had good suction, and had a generous hose length. This Hoover unit has all of these features. The unit mounts permanently to the wall, so obviously you need the space for it (it is not small). The vacuum is very noisy, but it is in the garage, so for me that is no issue. I will be seeking an extension for the 25 foot hose (never long enough!), but the supplied hose seems adequate in strength and not heavy to drag around. This unit is not inexpensive compared to the typical shop vac units that we are all used to, but it is much easier to use due to the fact that it is mounted on the wall and off the floor. So far, I am pleased with my purchase.
Update: Jan 2011
OK, now for the update. This vacuum gets very hot when on for 10 minutes or more. I will say again that it is noisy and as noisy at it is, you would think it would have absolutely fabulous suction. Not so great. I have since purchased a "Bissell Garage Pro" vacuum. Much better in every way, suction is better, much quieter, and somewhat smaller. I now have the Bissell in my house garage and the Hoover is in my barn!
Customer Review: Shop Owner Summary: 5 Stars
I really like my new Hoover GUV. Excellent suction, long hose makes easy clean up anywhere in my shop. It is easy to dump. The top does get warm if ran for awile. I would not put anything flammable or that could melt on top of the unit while using it (It will keep a cup of coffee hot :-). The GUV is much quieter than most shop vacs. I had a Fein Turbo II a few years ago, sound level similar. The Hoover GUV was less than 1/2 the price of my Fein. The GUV comes with a good selection of hand Accessories; but I do find the wands a little flimsy. This is NOT a wet vac! Avoid fluids, the canister is coated steel, but would not like getting wet. I would strongly recommend this product for cleaning vehicles, or to clean up wood /fiberglass shops. Would make a good job site vac for saw dust & drywall dust. Comes with a life time filter (I hope that's the case.). I was spending $ 20.00 quarterly on filters for my Ridgid vac (my Ridgid vac is much much louder & does not have as good of suction). Hoover has a great product here. They should come out of the closet about it and advertise / support it better.
Customer Review: Good vac with a few caveats Summary: 4 Stars
My vac arrived quickly but the lower cannister was dented pretty bad on the bottom edge, enough to flake the paint; looks like it was dropped. There was no visible damage to the outside of the box, so maybe Hoover's quality control inspectors could use some improvement. I was pleased it was made in N. America and not you know where and I was able rotate the dent to the backside and it did not affect functionality, so it was not worth the hassle of sending back.
One warning mentioned briefly in the manual: "do not use an extension cord under any circumstances", presumably due to the high current, so make sure you have an outlet close to where you plan to mount it; the cord is not very long.
The unit is easy to mount and does provide good suction. As another buyer pointed out, it does get quite hot on top.
Both the hose wall bracket and the included accessory pouch are hany for storage. Overall, a good buy with free shipping.
Customer Review: Well worth the price.... Summary: 5 Stars
I just bought mine and was quite impressed. I have used a number of various sizes of shop and garage vacs in the past..... this is the best yet.
The 30 ft hose is real test for any vacuum/motor unit, and it does much better than I expected. For the money, this is very good. The 1200 watt motor does well, is not tooooo loud, and the whole concept is good. Mounted on the wall it is well out of the way when not in use, and with the long hose, I can reach every corner or tool in my shop. I do wish the can were slightly larger than 5 gallons, but so what? it does very well, is easy to use and install both. The key here is not is this perfect, for with a $150 retail price you should not be expecting perfect: it is a good unit for the money. it even carries a full 3 year warrantee as well. Yes, now that I have it, I would still buy it again if that were the choice.
Customer Review: Looking for a vacuum for a detail shop? I was and found it!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I spent hours if not days researching for the perfect vacuum that would stand up to daily use at a detail shop and not be expensive. I've read all the hype on all of the other vacuums and they all sound good, so of course I went with the price thing. Wow, it's just like my pull around rigid vacuum and has more suction. Even with the 30' hose. It's more quite than my pull around vacuum(which I still have). Something that I could not find out from the web was, how long the filter last. In the box, it says it is a life long filter. Now we are talking! I have used it and looked it over for the construction. And I really don't see where they could improve. It's all metal construction and looks good not cheap. Quit looking. I've done the homework. IF you are like me, you are just looking for the right review to make this purchase. This thing is for real.
