Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hoover U6630-900 Self Propelled WindTunnel Bagless Upright Vacuum CleanerCustomer Review: Only BUY if you can maintain it yourself and pet-free Summary: 5 Stars
My 4 Simple Rules for this Vacuum:
1. High Pile carpeting use only.
2. Use in only very clean Pet-Free Home
3. Owner must empty the Vaccuum dirt bin every time it is used
4. Owner must be handy with tools and machines.
The Hoover U6630-900 Self-Propelled WindTunnel Bagless Vacuum is excellent for the a homemaker who can meticulously maintain it. What I mean by that is not very complicated but it does require some work. You must empty the dirt canister after you finish vacuuming and check the filters for excessive hair every time you vacuum. I usually find a good bit of hair after vacuuming just one room and I get my hand in to remove it from the filter and the pre-filter every time. I vacuum at least twice per week and every time loads of dirt get picked up.We never wear our street shoes in the home and do not reside in a large city yet in only 3 days time there is still plenty of dirt and dust on our carpets for this vacuum to find. I do Not have pets and I think pet owners would be better off looking for a different vacuum than this. This vacuum really picks up an incredible amount of dirt, dust and hair from carpets even in a pet-free and often cleaned home. I suspect that the hair in homes with pets would clog the filters before you could finish one multi-room vacuum session and that might be a drag and too difficult for pet owners to tolerate. This vacuum picks up loads of hair even in clean pet free homes and I have noticed that the suction will suffer as the hair starts to accumulate on the filters. Those filters, there are 3 by the way, will trap loads of hair and tiny debris even in very clean homes. In a home with pet hair you will probably have to clean the filters after vacuuming just one medium to large sized room if you want to keep good suction for the next room.. You also have to check the brush frequently and remove strings and carpet frags that will roll around the brush. If you dont do this often the vacuum brush action will suffer and the self propel feature may stop. I bought this vacuum at same time as my neighbor also bought hers and she has 3 hairy indoor dogs. Mine works perfectly, has never needed repair, with constant emptying on my part of the dirt canister after vacuuming. My neighbor's vacuum, the same exact model, has had to be repaired 3 times already and every time she was told by the serviceperson that the pet hair was her main problem. She admits to me also that she is not good about emptying the dirt canister. So I think you have to decide if you want to do the work every time you vacuum to maintain this bagless vacuum and just how dirty your floors get when you vacuum.
The reviews on this site that claim this vacuum is almost garbage from the get go are ridiculous and not accurate. Actually this vacuum has a great deal of power and suction --so much so that if you only plan to use it on oriental carpets or very low pile carpets I would tell you to not buy it. That is because the suction is so strong that it will wear on the pile and low pile carpets could begin to get a rigid and hard feel from being vacuumed with it repeatedly. This vacuum is best for thick high pile carpeting and not very good for low pile or hard floors. I would not tell you to buy it if you plan to use it on hard floors or low pile carpeting but if you have mostly high pile it works great.
As time has gone by I did begin to have trouble with the one drive belt on the vacuum after owning and using it for about 6 months. It would come off requiring me to get down on thr floor with a screwdriver and replace the belt myself. I found that I had to replace the belt as it had become too large and was thus too loose to work correctly.I used the second belt that Hoover had sent me with the vacuum and it worked great and solved the issue. I did the work myself with just a screwdriver and it took me about 15 minutes. Again, this might be too much for some people who are not handy with tools and machines and if that is you, avoid this vacuum.A service repair shop might charge $40 or more to do this work and that can add up. This Hoover vacuum really requires meticulous care although if you can do that it works well.
I am amazed at how much dirt it removes from my home's high pile carpeting. I am a clean person who owns no pets and all shoes are removed before entering my home.
I never use this hoover Windtunnel on my Karistan Oriental 20 by 10 foot carpet as the pile is low and this vacuum would be too rough on that.
This can be an excellent vacuum if you can and are able to maintain it in a well cleaned pet-free home and have high pile carpeting. I think there are better choices if you own pets or if you want to use it for low pile carpeting or hard flooring.
