Customer Review: Would be a 5 except for the hose

I bought this sweeper to replace the Hoover cannister sweeper I owned which began falling apart recently after many years. I have owned Hoover canisters for a long time. This one did not disappoint, except for the hose which, as others have stated, is of a cheaper quality and will kink sometimes. While I like the fact that the hose will swivel 360, I think that may also cause the hose to get twisted sometimes and kink up more.
The vacuum is powerful, and I've had no issues with mine which I purchased in March 2011. The power carpet brush detaches easily with just a push of my foot. The cord to the power brush, thankfully, is no longer dangling up the wand as before, but rather is internal now. The switch on the top of the handle to turn the power brush off is very handy. I find I can sweep my vinyl floors with the power brush turned off which is very handy--it actually does pick up very well on vinyl. I didn't think it would. I am not so impressed with the edge cleaning as it seems to have issues picking up a piece of dry cat food from the edge of the carpet near the baseboard. The power brush attachment can be a little large to use in my bathrooms, but I also like the hard floor attachment brush. It has small wheels on it which help it glide nicely over vinyl. I have wiped the bathroom floor with a damp paper towel after using the floor brush to check if it is picking up everything, and found nothing.
The upholstery/dust brush attachment has an unusual angled shaped which is useful. The crevice tool is adequate. Both of these tools are small and fit right in a storage compartment on top of the canister. Also the wand pulls off the hose just by pressing down on a small lever button, much different than previous Hoovers, and very easy. The easily adjustable wand length is one of my favorite features--I extend it all the way to reach further under the bed. I like the variable speed control on the of the top canister which lets me cut the power down to sweep over a small rug.
In the past I have had issues with Hoover's cord re-winder on every model I've owned. In time they tend to quit working. We will see how this one holds up. I also have never liked the two unmarked buttons on the top of the Hoover canisters, one for cord re-wind and one to turn the sweeper on. I always get them mixed up as to which one is which. This unit has them marked with a raised image of a cord and the other button with a straight line. I found them still difficult to see so I took a red Sharpie marker and colored the raised pictures red. It looks like they manufactured it that way and solved that problem!
Overall this is a very good sweeper. Reading others reviews, they must have had a defect with this model previously which hopefully they have corrected. I paid $252.54 including shipping on Amazon and had this sweeper in my house about 4 days after I ordered it--very good price for what the product offers. I don't like the fact that the company is in China now, but I do like my sweeper. Had I realized this almost local (where I live) company had been sold to China, I may not have ordered it--possibly may not buy Hoover in the future because of this.
