Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hunter 22434 Sontera Three-Light 52-Inch Five-Blade Ceiling Fan, White with Frosted GlobesCustomer Review: Quiet and nice once installed Summary: 4 StarsI had a rough install with this fan. Not entirely an issue with the fan but more the remote control receiver that gets stuffed in the top area where the wires are hidden. My install was on a 12' ceiling with a 3' drop down bar so that in itself made it tough since my ladder barely got me high enough. The instructions seemed to show that the wires from the ceiling should be attached on top of the remote control receiver; however, I was unable to get the wires and remote packed in enough for the cover to go over everything and get the screws in to hold everything up. I had to feed the wires from the ceiling through the remote control receiver and then connect them to the fan in order to get everything stuffed in the cover before getting all the screws in to the bracket. This is the area where hanging the fan on the 12' ceiling became a challenge because I had a lot of extra work to do at that height on a barely suitable ladder. It would have been so much easier on a 8' ceiling...so if you're installing on a high ceiling be sure to have a ladder that'll get you up high enough. Once installed, it was all worthwhile since this fan replaced a noisy fan in the bedroom. Very quiet at low speeds and very tolerable noise at the highest speed. Remote works well although I'm sure I'll be needing to get another since I easily misplace remotes.
Customer Review: Solid Fan, Disappointing Transmitter Summary: 2 StarsHunter makes quality fans. I chose this fan because I wanted to remotely control the fan speed and light in my guest BR. I have a Minka Aire remote controlled fan in my master BR and wanted to install something similar on the same house level in the guest BR. This fan seemed like the perfect solution since the wireless transmitter feature is worth about $40, making the fan cost reasonable.
I had an electrician professionally install it. The build quality is great on this fan. However, after a few days of use I noticed this fan is "possessed"! My fan for no apparent reason would switch to the highest fan speed from the lowest. Sometimes when the fan was on with the light off, the light would turn itself on. #$%!@*+. I checked the manual and it wasn't clear what the problem was. I contacted my electrician and he suggested I change the jumpers around to another setting. To do this requires the following: (1) cut power to fan from the breaker box, (2) remove battery from remote control (VERY important), (3) change jumpers in remote control, (4) DISASSEMBLE fan to get to transmitter in base, (5) change jumpers in base to match the remote control, (6) reassemble fan, (7) restore power. Failure to follow these steps in this order means that your code change will not work. Now you could imagine your mood if you had to do this dance more than once, which I did. I called Hunter Support and they informed me that I didn't need to use all three jumper pins. I could use one, two, or three, so long as the remote control code matched the transmitter code in the base. The Hunter manual did not explicitly state this.
I should note that I have NEVER had any remote interference problems with my Minka Aire fan. If you install this fan consider lining the walls of the room with foil to avoid any interference. Keep in mind interference can be from any RF device, whether it's your wireless modem, another fan, or telephone system. If it's within a 500' range, it could interfere, even if it's a device from your neighbor doing the interfering. I gave this fan two stars because the build of the fan is great, but the implementation of the transmitter and support for the fan was very poor. If I were to do this again I would get a non-remote controlled fan from Hunter, have it wired with three-way wire, and just use the pull chains for control.
Customer Review: hunter ceiling fan Summary: 5 StarsService was very fast, received what I ordered, price was good.
Would recommend this product and company to everyone.
Customer Review: Uses candelabra bulbs Summary: 4 StarsPurchased the fan from Amazon. Everything is fine. The fan is quiet. The only surprise is that Hunter changed the bulb from medium base incandescent to candelabra base. The CFL candelabra is fairly expensive. Otherwise its OK.
Customer Review: Hunter Sontera ceiling fan a nice room accessory Summary: 4 StarsI am very pleased with this fan, overall.
Not a super easy install for a novice like me, my husband completed the installation well within 2 hours, although the instruction manual was somewhat vague in certain areas, which earned this produce a slightly less than perfect rating.
We chose to flush mount the fan and 3-light attachment (bulbs not included) in a smaller bedroom with an 8' ceiling. Two alternative mounting options are included.
Remote controlled operation (controller included, batteries are not) is quiet at all speeds and transition is smooth, although there is a slight wobble at the highest setting only. Included is a balancing kit to address wobble.
