Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hunter 23965 The Westlake 52-Inch 5-Blade Ceiling Fan with Maple/Cherry Blades, Brushed NickelCustomer Review: Not What I Expect From Hunter Summary: 2 Stars
I've installed several fans over the years, but I can't recall any that have been this much of a pain. One of the biggest issues I had is that the support bar which connects the fan to the ceiling has two rubber "feet" that are supposed to contact the ceiling on each side. Problem is they weren't positioned far enough apart to make contact on both sides and I ended up having to wedge a piece of plastic on one side to make enough room for the fan to connect to the support bar (at that point I was getting the thing up one way or another). Even then the plastic I had wasn't quite large enough, so my fan is a bit tilted.
When connecting the fan to the ceiling, there's also a cumbersome plastic casing which I assume houses some of the electronics. This fits in the top of the fan casing and has to be positioned just right to connect everything to the support bar. Why couldn't this piece be secured in there so you don't have to fumble with it while trying to get it connected above your head? This is just one example and the whole assembly process just wasn't well thought out at all.
Then there's the instructions... As mentioned above, there are several steps left out and parts that are just flat out wrong. Definitely not what I would have expected from Hunter.
Another annoying part is the dimmer. If you turn the light on and dim it, it's back to full brightness the next time you turn it off and back on again (with the remote or light switch). We have this fan in a bedroom, and I'm sure that's going to be annoying when we're used to the light staying at the dimness level it was previously set to.
The fan does look pretty good, but IMO it's not worth the trouble to install and I would recommend for anyone else who's looking at this fan to keep browsing.
