This remote has issues. All you need to do is search the internet under Hunter and the product number and you can see for yourself all the reviews and websites discussing the issues. My lights on the fan turn on randomly in the middle of the night (kind of scary the first time it happened but now its just annoying) and the speeds will change randomly as well. Changing the frequency on the remote and the fan (which requires taking the fan down again) doesn't solve the problem either. Customer Review: This can even be used on certain hugger type fans

I'm using this unit on the Hampton Bay Carriage House II fan and it fits perfectly in there with the bracket/hanger with string tie as the instructions recommend. As mentioned before the light does not save previous lighting settings. I'm not sure if its just the two units I have or if its something all units can do, but if you press the high and medium buttons together the light will come on at a low level. And if you hold those two buttons the light will begin to brighten. Don't you hate when products can do something extra not mentioned in the manuals?Customer Review: Napping in the lap of luxury

There's nothing like a ceiling fan over the bed to help you catch your zzzz's on a hot summer night. Instead of shivering in an air conditioner's icy blast, you loll under a gentle breeze, perhaps dreaming about faraway places kissed by tropical trade winds. That is, until your mate, while groping around in the dark for the fan's pull chain, inadvertently plants a knee right in your abdomen.
The Hunter Fan 27185 Remote Control prevents such nocturnal escapades. Its receiver installs inside the canopy on most ceiling fans, best done while you're hanging the fan, but it can also be done any time after installation. The transmitter uses a single 9-volt battery and sits on the night stand or in its handy wall holder.
The size, shape and texture of the oblong fan control buttons let you operate the fan in complete darkness. Three buttons in descending order of size select high, medium and low fan speeds. The smallest button turns the fan off with a single press.
Your fingers won't mistake the big round light/dimmer button for a fan button and accidentally bathe the bedroom in a blaze of light. When you really DO want to turn on the light, press and release the button. Press and release again to turn off the light. Press and hold the button to cycle the dimmer up and down.
If you want wireless convenience on more than one fan in the house, you can set each transmitter/receiver pair to its own channel. So, while your better half snoozes with the bedroom fan on low, you can lie on the couch in the living room and crank up the fan to high.
Thanks to the same capacitor speed control technology that Hunter uses in their own fans, the Hunter Fan 27185 Remote Control won't induce motor hum at lower speeds, a common fault of cheap voltage-regulating remotes. It works with nearly all makes and sizes of ceiling fan EXCEPT Hunter's "The Original" series.

I give this remote two stars for ease of installation, otherwise I'll be looking for another remote. The unit may or may not work, depending on the location of the handheld transmitter in relation to the receiver. This is not an out-of-range problem because the receiver might not pick up the signal even if the transmitter is only a few inches away. At first I suspected a weak battery but this was not the culprit. I have spent several hours orienting the antenna wire in every possible way and retesting the unit, and there are still dead spots in the room where the transmitter will not work, even though it works very dependably in other spots. Reading some previous reviews praising this unit, it sounds as if the manufacturer has a quality control problem regarding consistency. But it seems that we all agree on the unit's lack of ability to remember the last brightness setting -- when you turn off the light, regardless of where the dimmer is set, turning the light on again brings it immediately to the full setting... not very comfortable on the eyes after waking up in the middle of the night. You can only "dim down" the light -- starting from full brightness and going gradually to off. There is no way to increase from dim to bright. Overall, I am very disappointed.Customer Review: Great add-on.

I felt pretty much, how everyone else has, easy to install, works great, looks great, etc. Unlike the reviewer who said that the unit does not work while hanging on the hanger, his must be out of range, because mine works fine while hanging, in fact, i place my receiver antenna up inside the ceiling box, and i haven't found a place in our 2200 sq. ft house, that the thing will not work. AWESOME UNIT !!!!!
