Tools and Hardware Reviews of Hunter 42996 Just Right Digital Thermostat with RemoteCustomer Review: Perfect for me X2 Summary: 5 Stars
I couldn't believe it when I saw these for around $12 so I bought two, one for the RV and one for the house. I had heard great things about upgrading the cheap factory thermostat in the RV but I didn't know what I was missing. I've only used the RV once since I installed the new thermostat and all I can say is it's great. To be able to tap the remote while still in bed is a huge plus!
We have a gas wall heater in the house so I hooked up this Thermostat to operate the heater only, again I don't know why I waited so long. Our thermostat in the house is in a poor location behind a wall unit near our television so access is not real easy, again the remote made this install a big plus. Our TV puts out some heat so sometimes it messes with the thermostat setting, again being able to bump the heat up and down without having to reach behind the wall unit is great. Only down side is that we will probably see higher gas bills just because this thermostat has made our heater so much easier to use.
Some notes about the remote:
The remote requires an A23 battery, same as they use in a lot of car remotes, they are available at many places. I bought a two pack at Wal-Mart for about $7. I have read some comments about how the remote will only adjust by a degree or two at a time. While this is is true for adjusting from the current temperature I don't see a problem. If it's 68* and you want 70* two clicks up, if it gets to 70* and that's not enough click it once or twice again, same for going down. However, if the current temperature is say 66* and the thermostat is on and set to say 60* one click of the remote will bring the setting to the current temperature and two clicks will turn on the heat. If you want to turn the setting down from say 70* to 60* you would have to do that at the thermostat as you can not lower the temperature setting with the remote more than 2* below the current temperature. Hope that made sense?
